Surrender by PaK army in 1971 was biggest ever in history: GoC 15 Corps Dhillon

Srinagar, Dec 16 : General officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon said that at least 93000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered before the Indian army and “it was the historic surrender in the history of world after world war two.”

He was speaking on the eve of Vijay Devas celebrations in Kashmir where the widows and families of martyrs of 1971 war were felicitated and honoured.

“In 1971, at least 93000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered before Indian army. This was the biggest ever surrender of any army after world war two,” GoC said.  He said Indian army played a great role in saving Bangladesh where Pakistani army was inflicting atrocities on the common people.

According to the wire service—, the ceremony was held at Army 15 Corps Headquarters at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.

The celebration began with a wreath lying at the war memorial in the cantonment by Lt General KJS Dhillon.

The corps commander then felicitated the families of soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. “The 2019 is a year dedicated to the families of the next of kin of the fallen soldiers,” Dhillon said. “I want to pay my homage to the families of the soldiers who died in the 1971 war.”

Khatija, a widow of fallen soldier Ghulam Muhammad Dar said the Army has been supporting her all along.  “My son is jobless, I am hopeful that army will help him find a job,” she said. Many other families of fallen soldiers were felicitated by GoC Dhillon. Floral tributes were paid to the soldiers who laid down their lives in 1971 war.(KNO)
