SRINAGAR, Nov 29: A fire broke out in the Out Patient Department (OPD) block of SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina, during the intervening night of November 28 and 29, 2025, causing damage to five faculty office rooms. No loss of life or injuries were reported, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to the administration, the fire was detected shortly after midnight, prompting an immediate response from the Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighting teams from JVC/VEER, supported by the hospital’s security and engineering staff, acted swiftly to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other critical areas of the OPD block.
Hospital authorities said the quick coordination between emergency responders and in-house teams ensured that the flames were extinguished in time, limiting the damage and safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors present in the building.
The affected areas have since been secured, and normal hospital operations have resumed. An FIR has been lodged with the local police, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The administration of SKIMS Medical College-Hospital stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
Dr. Fazal Parray, Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina, expressed gratitude to senior officials who visited the hospital and reviewed the situation, including Hon’ble Health and Medical Education Minister Ms. Sakreena Itoo, Secretary Health & Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Director SKIMS & EoSSG Prof. Mohd Ashraf Gania, and Additional Director EoSSG Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir.
Dr. Parray appreciated their timely support and assured that safety protocols across the hospital would be further strengthened to enhance emergency preparedness and infrastructure security.
