Syed Masood-ul-Hassan Geelani is no more

SRINAGAR, May 2: Renowned educationist and former trade union leader Syed Masood Ul-Hassan Geelani passed away today after a brief spell of illness at a hospital in Srinagar. He was 83.


According to family sources, Late Geelani will be laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Jalsheeri in Baramulla.

The deceased is father-in-law of Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad, former deputy commissioner of Baramulla.

Pertinently, Late Geelani had retired as deputy chief education officer in 1997. Besides being involved in various academic activities and policy planning, he was well known for his trade union activism.

His contribution in school education and administrative acumen particularly in implementation of an adult education programme of the then government was acknowledged by the department.

People from almost all walks of life have condoled the demise of Mr. Geelani.
