Tarigami seeks repatriation of professors from Ladakh University to KU

Date:

Srinagar, Apr 05 : At least 15 Assistant Professors, of University of Kashmir (KU), who had been posted at the Leh and Kargil campuses of the varsity since 2015, are demanding their repatriation for the last one and half years, without yielding any results, CPI (M) senior leader and former Kulgam legislator, M Y Tarigami said on Monday.

“Following Jammu and Kashmir’s bifurcation, KU’s Leh and Kargil campuses were transferred to the University of Ladakh. But as per the provisions of the Reorganization Act, all government employees’ preferences were sought. These assistant professors had also sought repatriation to the KU. While the University of Ladakh has issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) in favour of their repatriation, so-far the KU has reportedly refused to grant these professors their transfers, citing non-availability of posts in the varsity,” Tarigami said in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch.

According to media reports more than a hundred teaching positions are lying vacant in the KU and these professors can be easily accommodated in the varsity against these posts. “These professors have been discharging their duties with dedication despite facing all odds in the Ladakh region for years together. Kashmir University has already handed over the two campuses to Ladakh University and as such it ceases to be operational in UT Ladakh,” he said.

However, the bonafide employees of the KU are being compelled to work outside our parent organization against their wishes and in violation of their service conditions, he said, adding that “we hope that lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who is also the chancellor of the KU, to look into the matter thoroughly and impress upon KU administration to seek redressal of their grievances without any further delay.”
