Teachers Day: Kashmir failed its teachers

Date:

Teachers are the true pillars of our success. They help us garner knowledge, improve our skills, grow confidence as well as help us to choose the right path to success. But, despite playing such a crucial role in the lives of students and in nation-building, they rarely are shown the gratitude that they deserve.

Not only the gratitude, even the killing of teachers at the hands of terrorists in Kashmir speaks volumes about the level of ignorance in our society—a society that did not rise to the occasion to call a spade and spade. A society that failed to acknowledge the contribution of those slain teachers, who would impart education to the students irrespective of their religion, caste or creed!

So, the teachers day provides all of us an opportunity to introspect and see whether we honour our teachers and give them the respect that they deserve.

There is no doubt that being a teacher is a noble profession that deserves an equal amount of love and respect as any other profession. However, that love and respect should not be confined to organizing certain programmes and events in schools to celebrate Teachers’ Day on September 5.

Teachers’ Day 2022 is a reminder of the role that teachers play in nation-building by guiding and educating the young minds of our country.

The government of India and the government of UT of J&K particularly must go for teaching reforms that will at least honour the contribution of our teachers’ community though an element of accountability can also be incorporated in such much needed reforms.
