In a shocking development, police on Friday claimed to have arrested two teachers among eight terrorist associates in Uri, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Baramulla Amod Nagpuri said that a terrorist module was busted in Uri, a border town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, and in this regard, eight individuals involved in terror activities were arrested.
Giving details of two busted terror modules as per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, the SSP said at Churunda-Uri on 08/08/2023 Joint forces of Baramulla Police and Army’s 16 SIKHLI during joint patrolling and area dominance noticed one suspected person who was roaming in the area and tried to flee while noticing the patrolling party. He was apprehended tactfully, the police said.
During his frisking, two grenades were recovered from him, and he was taken into custody immediately. He was later identified as Showkat Ali Awan, son of Abdul Karim Awan of
Churunda Uri.
During further questioning, he revealed the names of his accomplices, Ahmad Din, son of Shukur Din of Churunda Uri, and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana, son of Umer Din of Churunda, who were questioned, and upon their disclosure, 2 grenades, 1 Chinese pistol, 1 pistol magazine, and 4 live rounds were recovered from them.
Similarly, on August 11, 2023, at Powarian Thaial Uri, the Joint forces of Baramulla Police and Army’s 16 SIKHLI during a checking operation at Powarian Thajal Uri signalled one vehicle, a Maruti Swift bearing number CHOID-9588, to stop. The vehicle was stopped, but the driver and other four persons boarding the vehicle insisted the naka party to allow them to proceed to the hospital due to certain medical emergencies, upon which the naka party felt suspicious about them.
He said the Naka party immediately started a search of the vehicle, and during the search, four handgrenades, two pistols, two pistol magazines, 10 live rounds, and 50K in cash were recovered. They were taken into custody immediately and later identified as Akhter Bhat, son of Niyaz Bhat of Tarzoo Sopore; Mohammad Aslam Khatana, son of Ata Mohammad of Churunda Uri; Muneer Ahmad, son of Mohiuddin of Jabla Uri; Mudasir Yousuf Gokno, son of Mohammad Yousuf of Krankshivan Sopore; and Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin of Hardushiva.
Sources in the police said that the accused are involved in the cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities.
They added that the cases under the Indian Arms Act and the UA (P) Act were registered at Police Station Uri, and further investigation has been initiated.
This is a major success for the security forces in the district by busting a huge terror module.
On Thursday evening, Sopore police arrested two LeT militant associates, while on Friday afternoon, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered along the line of control in the Macchil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
