The Resurgence of Containment Zones

Date:

For a few months, it felt really good to walk outside and meet up with friends without caring for the odd masks or following any other associated SOP’s. It seemed the world was moving back to normalcy while Covid-19 was a problem of bygone days. But is it so?

One can understand that even after two years of intermittent lockdowns and strict observation of Covid Appropriate Behaviour the natural tendency of every human being is to walk and breathe in the natural way they have been born but that could have been plausible only if the vicious pandemic was over.

The dormancy period of pandemic is an inverse situation which comes just after the strict following of requisite guidelines meant for containing the spread of this virulent contagion. However, the complacency breaks this phase of latency and then spikes in Covid-19 positive cases becomes a daily norm.

As the winters are approaching, the average distance of the contact between humans decreases considerably. To avoid the weather chills, people prefer to sit together in cosy and closed rooms. This situation adds more to the impending danger of the spread of coronavirus.

The government of J&K has also issued an important advisory with regards to the suspected rise in Coronavirus cases if the people continue to act in a negligent manner. Many new containment zones have been declared across Srinagar and accordingly sealed. In case of delinquency, it can possibly trigger the much feared third wave which until now with our collective efforts was effectively halted.

As responsible citizens, we need to make a choice whether we sacrifice a few more months following the essential guidelines or regret afterwards for years inside locked down houses. The choice is ours.
