The unending price hikes in essential commodities

Date:

The Russia-Ukraine crisis has given rise to a pressing situation of global inflation where rates of various commodities like petrol & LPG have skyrocketed immensely.

In India the fuel prices are hiked with every passing day due to which the prices of daily essentials keeps on fluctuating at a frequent intensity. The common man is being pushed to the wall whereas the government is unable to control this economic tumult.

As the transportation costs of essential commodities has gone higher due to persistent hikes in fuel prices, the same has resulted in soared up prices of routine essential products.

In past few days, the reports in the media suggested that price of 1 kg lemon touched 200 rupees which was earlier around 60 rupees per kg. The prices of other such items have also witnessed a staggering increase that is creating huge economic stress on the pockets of common man.

On Tuesday in the country’s parliament, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said that fuel price hikes in India are 1/10th when compared to that of other countries. He said that these hikes constitued only five per cent between April 2021 and March 2022 but this data is not enough for the people who are bearing the brunt of this inflation.

The government needs to devise a comprehensive policy that can effectively combat this crisis that has affected the lives of people at clossal levels. The main focus should be maintained on curbing the fuel prices so that transportation costs of the essential commodities comes down and some relief is delivered to common citizens.
