Ganderbal, June 8: Amid an atmosphere of devotion and spiritual fervour, thousands of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir gathered at Baba Nagri, Wangat, to participate in the 130th annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi, which concluded on Monday.
The two-day religious event witnessed an overwhelming turnout of men, women and children who visited the shrine to offer prayers and seek blessings. The Urs was marked by Quran recitations, Shab Khawani, Darood-o-Azkaar and other spiritual programmes, reflecting the deep-rooted faith and reverence associated with the saint.
Religious scholars and clerics, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the timeless teachings of peace, tolerance, compassion and selfless service to humanity propagated by the saint.
They urged people, particularly the younger generation, to preserve and promote Kashmir’s centuries-old Sufi traditions that foster communal harmony and social cohesion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Altaf Ahmad paid rich tributes to the saint’s spiritual legacy and remembered the contributions of his late father, Mian Bashir Ahmad. He called upon people to embrace the values of love, brotherhood and humanity that have long been the cornerstone of Kashmir’s Sufi culture.
Special prayers were offered for lasting peace, prosperity and the welfare of the people. The annual Urs continues to serve as one of Kashmir’s most significant spiritual gatherings, drawing devotees from across the Valley and reaffirming the region’s enduring Sufi heritage and traditions of unity.
