Srinagar, May 27: Thousands of Muslims on Wednesday offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers across several parts of the valley, with the largest congregations witnessed at Eidgah Srinagar while similar gatherings were witnessed in other parts also.
People dressed in traditional attire assembled at Eidgahs and mosques from early morning hours to mark the festival amid tight arrangements by local authorities. Similar large gatherings were reported from almost every village in the valley, where worshippers participated in special prayers and religious sermons.
Imams addressing the congregations called for peace, communal harmony and unity, while special prayers were offered for peace across the globe, particularly in regions affected by conflict and violence.
During sermons delivered after the prayers, several clerics expressed concern over the growing drug abuse crisis in Kashmir and urged society to socially boycott drug peddlers and addicts. They described narcotics as a serious threat to the younger generation and appealed to families and communities to work collectively against the menace.
Religious leaders also condemned the recent rape and death of a minor girl in Budgam, terming the incident “shocking and inhuman”. The clerics demanded strict punishment for those involved and called on authorities to ensure swift justice in the case.
Following the prayers, people exchanged Eid greetings and visited relatives as sacrificial rituals were carried out across the district.
