Karnataka: Three engineering students arrested for hailing Pakistan booked under sedition charges
HUBBALLI: The Gokul Road police have arrested three engineering students on the charges of raising pro Pakistan slogans and circulating the video of hailing the neighbouring country.
Police Commissioner R Dileep said they have arrested three engineering students studying at KLE Institute of Technology. He gave the names of the arrested as Aamir Mohiuddin Wani, third year student of civil engineering ,Basit Asif Sofi, Talib Majeed both studying in second semester of civil engineering.
Dileep said they have arrested them under IPC sections of 124(Sedition), 153(a), and 153(b) for disturbing communal harmony.
Right wing activists staged protest at the college premises in the afternoon demanding action against the accused.
Shivanand Sattigeri, district president of Bajrang Dal has alleged the police initially did not taken action against the accused. It was the Bajrang Dal’s pressure that made them to arrest the accused.
The accused were staying at a hostel of the college. They were studying under government quota, sources added.
