Srinagar February 5 : In a statement issued to media today, President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Dr Suhail Naik said that despite appointment of one thousand medical officers, there is adverse doctor- patient ratio in Union Territory of J&K.
Excluding Summer and Winter capital the fragility of health care system is obvious and it is prime responsibility of the administration to upgrade the health care delivery system by creating and timely promoting Medical officers with Post Graduations to consultants with predefined caderization,” he said.
Furthermore it is very imperative to appointment the second line faculty tier in five new medical colleges on fast track basis to provide best medical education to medical graduates and refined promotive, preventive and curative care to public at doorsteps, he added.
General Secretary DAK, Dr Owais H Dar said that there is uneven distribution and apparent discrepancy in number and distribution of different consultant posts across J&K.Though the process of promotion is already there but due to uneven distribution of posts and failure in creation and upgradation of posts in different streams makes it a slow and time consuming task. Moreover there are many departments which have no senior consultant posts available yet.
Dr Fayaz Bhat, spokesperson of DAK said the promotive system should be streamlined like that of medical colleges in rural and peripheral health sector. Not only creation of more consultant posts in different streams of peripheral health system is need of the hour but timely promotion is also important aspect of comprehensive promotive policy. Consultants of Health department who are serving in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir must be promoted to senior consultant posts in analogy with Medical Colleges.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) requests the Hon’ble LG administration and Shri RR Bhatnagar, Hon’ble Advisor for HME to create new consultant and senior Consultant posts across J&K and expedite the process of timely promotion which has slowed down due Covid-19 pandemic.
DAK further requests Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Department Shri Atal Dullo to look into this serious issue which pertains to public health delivery at large and also to medical fraternity in rural health sector.
