PULWAMA, June 1: A two story residential house belonging at Eidgah Chandgam in district Pulwama was partially damaged due to soil erosion early in the morning.
“We were awake but my younger brother was asleep at 6 am when we heard a bang,” Mohammad Irfan Malik, a family member of Ghulam Nabi Malik, the owner of the damaged house told Kashmir Despatch. He said that fortunately everyone in our family escaped unhurt.
While talking over the continuous rains, he said that because of the canal flowing from the upper part of the hill, there is a breach in the canal. “We requested many a times to the authorities to address this problem but no work was done to make this canal concrete,” said Malik.
However, Shuja Showkat, Executive Engineer Irrigation department said: “It is true that the canal flows over the top of that hill. We had closed the gates a few days ago because of rains to restrain the flow of water.”
