Tourism Department shelves service norms, matric pass employees to be future clerks

Date:

Srinagar Jan 02: Tourism Department of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is all set ready to promote its matriculate pass peons as future clerks, which unemployed youth of Valley has termed a sheer discrimination with thousands of jobless degree holders and other highly educated youth who are moving from pillar to post to get employed.

According to news agency, the government of J&K Union Territory has decided to promote matriculate pass peons and other class IV employees as clerks in state departments to start with in the Tourism Department.

Officials notifications has revealed that the government has invited applications from matriculate pass peons and other class IV employees working in the Tourism Department Kashmir to appear for a type test for their forthcoming promotion as Junior Assistant.

“It is for the information of all the Matriculate Class IV employees of the Directorate of Tourism Kashmir and Tourism Development Authorities of Kashmir Division that department is going to conduct type test for promotion to the post of junior assistant through NIELIT Srinagar. All such class IV employees who are desirous of participating in the type test are asked to apply this office on any working day by or before 10/12/2019 along with an application and fee amount of rupee 250 in case cash as the same is to be deposited to Director NIELIT for conducting of the type test”, reads the notification issued by Joint Director of Tourism, Kashmir.

Sources said decision has drawn severe criticism from various quarters. A senior official said the Tourism Department has set a ‘bad precedence’ by coming up with such promotions. They added after the creation of the UT, the people were expecting people friendly governance where the educated youth would reap the benefits of good governance which has been promised to them but unfortunately such an initiative of promoting matric pass clerks has dejected educated youth.

Officials wishing not to be named said, “granting the post of Junior Assistant to a mere matriculate pass aspirant is against the very idea of the good governance”. “What kind of documents or notes can a matriculate person write?”, they questioned.

Meanwhile several educated youth of Valley have raised fingers over this objectionable move and have appealed Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to initiate an inquiry into the matter. “We appeal the His Excellency to initiate an inquiry into the matter as who is behind this move of depriving the adequately educated youth of their due share in the government jobs”, the youth said. (JKNS)
