Traders, Transporters protests in Baramulla, Sopore against attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu

Baramulla, Feb 17 : Amid complete shutdown scores of traders, transporters in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Sopore on Sunday staged a peaceful protest over voilance against Kashmiris by rightwing extremists in Jammu and other states.


Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said scores of traders and transporters in Baramulla town took out a protest march to condemn the attacks on Kashmiris in Jammua and other parts of the country.


Reports said during protest rally they demanded safety of Kashmiri traders and students outside the vallley.


In north Sopore town Coordination Committee also hit the roads as a mark to protest the violent demonstrations in Jammu and alleged harassment of Kashmiris in other parts of the state.


They have threatened to cut off business ties with Jammu-based traders in case the attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu were not stopped immediately.
On Saturday various trade bodies called for Kashmir bandh to protest against attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of India.


Meanwhile a national online news portal “The Wire” has reported Between 1,500 and 2,000 Kashmiri students study in various colleges and institutes in Dehradun. Several students have been assaulted, while others have been forced out of their rented. Many have also left Dehradun to return home to Kashmir.


The online news portal “The Wire” also reported that “Mobs have been threatening violence with slogans like ‘Hindustan ki gaddaron ko goli maro’. The mob is on every corner on every street with weapons in their hand. We are scared to move out, go anywhere. We do not know what to do,” students had quoted to “The Wire”.
