Baramulla, Nov. 28: A 32-year-old woman lost her life after giving birth at the district hospital in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.
Talking to Kashmir Despatch, the family of the deceased woman, Dilshada Akthar (32) has alleged that her death was the result of medical negligence on the part of the doctors attending to her.
According to the family, despite their repeated requests, the doctors at the hospital ignored Dilshada’s deteriorating condition after she delivered her baby in the morning of November 28. They claim that she did not receive the necessary care and attention from the medical staff present at the institution.
Dilshada fought for her life for several hours while the hospital staff, as alleged by her family, were more engrossed in their cell phones than in attending to her medical needs.
A sister of the deceased who witnessed the entire incident expressed her deep sorrow while talking to Kashmir Despatch and referred to her sister’s death as murder.
A relative of the deceased woman has raised serious concerns regarding potentially illegal and unethical practices within the hospital and is demanding that authorities thoroughly investigate the matter in order to prevent any further loss of life.
The deceased woman’s mother-in-law recounted the entire unfortunate episode to Kashmir Despatch. Expressing her grief and anguish, she stressed the need for justice and action against all those implicated in this alleged murder. She went on to highlight the potential dangers faced by anyone, emphasizing that what happened to them today could happen to anyone tomorrow. She questioned the validity of the claims made by the authorities regarding their accomplishments in the healthcare sector, provocatively asking if such achievements come at the expense of innocent lives.
Meanwhile, the concerned relative emphasized the urgent need for authorities to address and rectify any negligence that may exist within the hospital.
Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Baramulla, expressed his condolences to the family and assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted. He stressed that if any individual is found responsible for any wrongdoing, they will face strict legal consequences.
