Kashmiri MBBS Student’s Remains Finally Reach Family After 15-Day Ordeal in Tehran

Thousands Participate in Funeral

SOPORE, Jan 20: The mortal remains of Arsalan Amin Kanjwal, an MBBS student who passed away in Tehran due to a suspected cardiac arrest, have finally been laid to rest in his native village in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a period of 15 days.

An official told Kashmir Despatch, Arsalan Amin Kanjwal expired on 5/6 January 2024 in Tehran’s Medical College. He said after completing the necessary post-mortem and formalities, his body was airlifted from Tehran after the gap of 15 days and reached New Delhi at 1.15 am on Saturday. Later in the day, the body was transported to his hometown, where it was laid to rest amidst an atmosphere of grief with thousands of people participating in the last rites.

Local reports told Kashmir Despatch that a large number of people attended the Nimaz e Jinna, which took place at Iqbal Market in Sopore.

Meanwhile, the J&K Student Association expressed gratitude to Union External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for facilitating the return of the body of Kashmiri MBBS student Mohammad Arsalan Kanjawal from Iran.

National Convenor Nasir Khuehami thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for intervening and coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran to repatriate Arsalan’s body to his family in Sopore Baramulla for the last rites.
