Training cum Orientation programme for holistic Development of Agriculture kick starts at KV Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Feb 6: First training programme under prestigious Apex Committee recommended Holistic Development plan in Agriculture & allied sectors for District Ganderbal started at KVK Shuhama on 6th Feb. 2023 under the aegis of Agriculture Production Department, Govt. of J&K. The aim of District level Orientation & Training programmes is to create awareness and build confidence in collaboration with all line departments for organizing, facilitating and taking all stakeholders on board for implementation of the prestigious Apex Committee entitled ‘Implementation Framework for Holistic Development of Agricultural Sector in J&K’. The approved plan comprises of 29 projects which aim to push agriculture and allied sectors to a new trajectory of growth, with an aim of massive transformation of agriculture in the UT. The programme was attended by Scientists from the University, officials of the line departments of agriculture and fisheries, Scientists and supporting staff of the KVK.

During the inaugural session, Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ganderbal briefed the participants about the aims and objectives of the programme and seeked active participation of all the line departments for implementation of the project. He informed the participants that the approved projects will transform the agricultural economy of the UT in the next five years by doubling the outputs, boosting exports and making the sectors more sustainable. He informed that this framework is the outcome of comprehensive scientific, technical and administrative inputs from stalwarts in the country which shall help to transform this sector in the UT of J&K. He emphasised that all trainings will be strictly conducted as per the scheduled calendar as per guidelines envisaged by the Government of J&K.

Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Dar, SMS KVK Ganderbal gave a detailed power point presentation about technological interventions for enhancing fish seed and trout production in the UT. It was revealed that 100 lakh eyed ova of genetically improved trout will be imported from European countries for increasing trout production. He also deliberated on the up-gradation of existing hatcheries and establishment of new hatcheries in cluster mode as per feasibility. Dr. Pervaiz described the use of bio-floc technology, re-circulatory aquaculture system, fish farming in polyhouse, IOT based smart hatcheries and use of solar panels for electricity generation for equitable and inclusive growth of fisheries sector in the district. He also discussed post-harvest management and need of cold chain infrastructure for decreasing losses and improving fish preservation facilities.

Dr. Salman Raof Chalkoo, Assistant Director Fisheries, Ganderbal described the need of adopting newer technologies for changing the face of fisheries sector of the District. He encouraged his team of field workers to update themselves about the latest technologies for implementation of the project in Ganderbal. The programme concluded with Interaction cum Feedback Session between the Scientists and in-service personnel. The participants were eager to learn about the latest advances in fisheries sector and how to adopt and implement them through this holistic programme. The trainees expressed their wish to work on scientific lines for achieving the set targets. The programme ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. F.A. Ahanger, SMS KVK Ganderbal.
