GANDERBAL, September 7: The bodies of a boy and a girl were recovered from a power canal in the Thune area of Kangan in Ganderbal district on Monday, officials said.
The recovery followed a search operation launched after the two were reportedly seen entering the canal, triggering an immediate response from police, SDRF personnel and local rescuers.
The deceased boy was identified as Irshad Ahmad Kahi, son of Mohammad Sharif Kahi, a resident of Thune. The identity of the girl has not been disclosed so far.
Rescue teams searched the canal and nearby areas for several hours before locating and retrieving the bodies from the water channel.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths.
