Ganderbal, June 15: Tragedy struck the Gund area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday after two persons drowned in a power canal, prompting a massive search and rescue operation by emergency response teams.
Officials said the body of Sabreena Bano (19), daughter of Fazal Rehman Khan and a resident of Ramwari Gund, was recovered from the canal near the site of the incident.
The body was subsequently shifted to PHC Gund for medico-legal formalities.
Following hours of intensive searches, rescue teams later recovered the body of Adil Ahmad Tantray (39), son of Ghulam Rasool and a resident of Gund, from the canal near Fraw Dam.
The operation was carried out by SDRF personnel and other rescue agencies after reports emerged that the duo had drowned in the power canal.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Both bodies were later shifted to SDH Kangan for further medico-legal examination and completion of legal formalities.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, while authorities have urged residents to exercise caution near water bodies and power canals.
