Srinagar, June 20: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan arrived in Srinagar on Saturday to chair a high-level security review meeting ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3. The visit is part of the Centre’s final assessment of security and logistical arrangements for the 57-day pilgrimage.
The meeting at Police Headquarters is being attended by senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau, Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies. Discussions are focused on strengthening the multi-layered security grid, intelligence coordination, deployment of forces, and preparedness along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
Officials are also reviewing the use of advanced surveillance technologies, including drones, CCTV networks, facial recognition systems, and RFID-based tracking mechanisms for pilgrims. Medical preparedness, disaster response, traffic management, and weather-related contingencies are also on the agenda.
The review follows a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi earlier this month, where directions were issued to ensure robust security arrangements and a smooth pilgrimage experience for devotees.
The Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, with authorities aiming to ensure a safe and incident-free pilgrimage amid heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir.
