Appeals authorities intervention for removal of hurdles, bottlenecks

Srinagar Dec 11: The residents of uptown areas of Srinagar are in trouble over the unwanted traffic jams at several locations during late hours. They appealed authorities to come up with effective and professional techniques in removing hurdles which led to inconvenience for travelers.

According to news agency several residents hailing from uptown areas including Kralpora, Baghi-Mehtab, Chanapora, NayakBagh, Nowgam, Gulshan Nagar and adjoining areas expressed serious concern over the unwanted traffic jams on LalChowk – Kralapora stretch during late hours. They said the area comprising from Rambagh to Natipora costs heavy toll throughout the day for travelers.

“Rambagh to Natipora which is just 5 minute walking distance but unfortunately due to unwanted traffic jams it takes at least 45 minutes in a vehicle”, said Parvez Ahmad resident of uptown Nowgam area.

He said, “Since the JehangirChowk – Rambagh flyover opened for vehicular movement, the downward step of the flyover at Rambagh near Information Department Complex troubled travelers immensely”.

Parvez who used the stretch daily to reach LalChowk said, “It is nothing but a mismanagement of administration who didn’t take the flow of traffic into consideration before planning and constructing downward step of the flyover at Rambagh junction”.

“Authorities should have first cleared the bottlenecks in the area. The stretch starting from ZamZam Hotel to Natipora is full of bottlenecks which lead to massive traffic jams throughout the day”, said Mushtaq Ahmad Pal of Gulshan Nagar Bypass.

He added the traffic department has employed 3 to 4 cops in the stretch who are unable to contain massive traffic jams in the area.

However several shopkeepers told that during early and late hours of the day youth of the area are voluntarily rendering their services in containing traffic mess. They said many times, stuck ambulances could manage to reach hospitals only after intervention of local volunteers.

Residents have appealed authorities to take effective measures for smooth flow of traffic in the area. They demanded authorities either to employ good number of traffic cops in the stretch or put dividers on the road in order to provide relief to travelers.(JKNS)
