Khanpora, 15, Aug 2024. In a historic first, the Veerwan Stone Mine Union, Khanpora, celebrated Independence Day with an overwhelming display of patriotism. This unprecedented event, marking the 78 years of the union’s existence, brought together thousands of participants from the mining community and beyond, showcasing their deep-rooted love for the nation.
The celebration was a grand affair with quarrymen from the region attending alongside their families, including wives and children. Notably, esteemed citizens from Khanpora, along with people from Narwaw, Kaleban, Kandi, and Baramulla, also joined the festivities, some arriving during the night.
The Independence Day celebrations spanned the entire day, beginning with a flag hoisting ceremony at 7:30 AM. The National Flag was hoisted by Mr Mohammad Anwar Khan sahib(Senior BJP leader ). The event was met with enthusiasm, as the participants collectively requested the central government, the LG administration, and the district authorities to promote such patriotic activities and to address the challenges faced by those in the mining business.
The participants expressed their heartfelt gratitude to various officials, including DC Baramulla Minga Sherpa, SSP Baramulla, CMO Baramulla, Chief Education Officer, District Youth Service Officer, and the Commanding Officer of the 22 Medium Regiment, for their support in making this event a success.
The involvement of local school children added a vibrant touch to the event, as they sang patriotic songs with great enthusiasm. A standout moment was when a student,Taiba Majeed, delivered a poignant tribute to the martyrs of the Indian independence struggle, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
A local social worker, aged 60, remarked, “In all my years, I have never seen such a program. This celebration has truly brought our community together in a spirit of unity and patriotism.”
