Wakf Board employs a retired employee without BoD consent

SRINAGAR, Jan 16: Newly appointed Vice Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board appointed one of the retired employees as General Manager Revenue and Estates without consulting Board of Directors.

Quoting a Trustee on the condition of anonymity a local news agency CNS said the new Vice Chairman Wakf Board GR Sofi has been ‘flouting all the norms and without consulting or seeking advice from the Board of Directors, he has started re-employing the retired employees.

“The former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had directed Board of Directors not to re-appoint any retired employee. We all were shocked when a 66 year old retired employee was recently appointed as General Manager in the Wakf Board. Besides him, other retired employees too were re-employed,” the Trustee said.

“According to Wakf Book Rules maximum age for re-employment is 62 years, while regular employees attain superannuation at the age 58.”

Quoting sources the news agency said that despite having competent regular employees, the broad prefers retired employees to run its affairs. “Four major posts are being held by the retired officials,” sources said and added that these posts are deliberately being kept vacant to adjust blue eyed, or those have their connection in power corridors.

The Trustee alleged that Vice Chairman Wakf Board has been dictating terms and even are not allowing members to use cell phones in the office chambers.
