When Nitin Gadkari visits J&K

Date:

From among the series of visits by the Central Ministers to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the visit of Union Minister for Roads, transport, and highways Nitin Gadkari has recieved immense hype.

His arrival has roused hopes especially with regards to the much anticipated upgradation of basic infrastructure in JK. The minister visited Z-morh and zojila tunnels toady and took the stock of ongoing construction work.

The reports suggest that around one lakh rupees have been allocated for such project across the region of JK. The Union Minister had earlier almost visited four tunnels on Srinagar-Leh highway.

In his interaction with the press, Minister has expressed contentment with the speed of work and has informed that sooner further mega projects for JK will be also announced.

But in the meantime, numerous delegations from both political and social circles, who met with the Union Minister, have raised a plethora of demands with regards to various other pressing and simultaneously pending projects.

The opening up of Mughal Road has always been an important demand of the people who wish to ease the intra-regional travel. This route was used by Mughals to enter Kashmir but if appropriate attention towards its development is given, it can cut short the long distances and even save travellers from the harsh weather.

Furthermore, Sinthan Top road also needs to be thrown open for public use as it can cater the vehicular inflow much efficiently and can reduce the distances drastically.

Importantly, construction of ring roads and flyovers in Srinagar need to be incorporated as soon as possible in order to contain and cope up with the ever growing number of vehicles that most of the times give rise to unnerving traffic jams.

The demands, resolutions and memorandums have been already submitted. Now it’s to be seen what Centre decides for the future of J&K.
