Pakistan minister Ali Amin Gandapur has spurred controversy by stating that any nation that will stand with India over the Kashmir issue will be attacked by missile and will be taken as enemy of Pakistan.
“If tensions with India rise on Kashmir, Pakistan will be compelled to go to war. Those countries backing India and not Pakistan (over Kashmir) will be considered our enemy and a missile will be fired at India and those nations supporting it,” Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur said at an event on Tuesday.
Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat shared a clip on Twitter in which the Pakistani minister is seen making the provocative statement.
The Pakistani minister’s oratory comes at a time when Pakistan has been snubbed globally over the Kashmir issue. Pakistan has unilaterally lowered bilateral relations after it cried foul over the Indian government’s move to revoke Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
India has stood firm on its decision on Jammu and Kashmir, a decision which has been supported by several nations, including the SAARC nations and the Arab nations.
In his first ever address at the UN General Assembly in September, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had talked about the issue and resorted to anti-India rant, Imran Khan had also ranked up the dire consequences in the event of a nuclear war with India.
“If a conventional war starts between the two countries anything could happen. A country seven times smaller than its neighbour what will it do — either surrender or fight for its freedom,” he had said.
“My belief is we will fight and when a nuclear-armed country fights till the end it will consequence far beyond the borders. I am warning you. It’s not a threat but worry about where are we heading. If this goes wrong you hope for the best but prepare for the worst,” he had added.
Imran Khan also went on to admit that Pakistan has been unsuccessful to internationalised the Kashmir issue, stating that he is thwarted with the international community over the issue.
