Join Us This World Diabetes Day – “Healthy Life is a Better Life”
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, SKIMS is organizing a Walkathon aimed at promoting awareness about diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
The Walkathon will be jointly flagged off by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mr. Anshul Garg (IAS), and Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie at Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), Lal Chowk on 14th November.
Following the Walkathon, a Screening Camp will be held at Joggers Park, Rajbagh, where experts from SKIMS will screen the general public, provide counseling, and distribute informative pamphlets on diabetes prevention and management.
Highlighting the significance of the day, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, world-renowned Endocrinologist and Director SKIMS, said that a large section of the population in our region is affected by diabetes, making consistent public awareness crucial.
“Early prevention is better. Uncontrolled diabetes, if not managed on time, can lead to serious health complications. People need to adopt healthy food habits and maintain an active lifestyle,” he emphasized.
Prof. Ashraf further added that SKIMS has a well-established Department of Endocrinology with experts who have conducted extensive research on diabetes and related disorders, including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The department has published its findings in several high-impact national and international journals and continues to collaborate with ICMR and other agencies on projects aimed at improving diabetes outcomes.
Today’s initiative reflects SKIMS’s ongoing commitment to community health and preventive medicine, reinforcing that “Healthy Life is a Better Life.”
