The programme began with a radio broadcast from Krishi Radio 89.6 FM for the audience of Kashmir valley and students of DEASI Traineepashusakhis watched the programs from ATIC of the University.
The said program was attended by various scientists of the Directorate including Prof. Afshan Gul, Prof Poonum, Prof Purshottam Singh and Dr Farhnaz Rasool who also spoke on the occasion. Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension emphasized the need to celebrate the world milk day across world since2001 to apprise and put forth the latest scientific procedures for production of hygienic milk in order to achieve and maintain the overall good health of the masses.
He said that production of fodder and grass are essential components that need to be addressed to achieve the optimum milk production. Due to rigorous research and exploring genetic potential the production of milk has increased manifold from 1950 with per capita increase from 50 grams to more than 450 grams resulting in self-sufficiency of milk and its products. He informed that because of continuous cross breeding and research, our progressive farmers in the valley have developed dairy farms wherein milk to an extent of 35-40 Kilogram per day stand extracted from a single cow. Besides, cow and buffalo milk, sheep and goat milk has also increased substantially and is expected to increase further in the near future.
The Director apprised the audience that the milk of many animals has medicinal value and is beneficial for maintaining the overall health of the general public citing the example of camel milk which has beneficial effects for diabetic patients and donkey milk being used in many countries for its medicinal value.
On the occasion the students of DESAI under training were apprised about production of wholesome and clean milk and prevention of milk borne diseases.
