Year 2018:A chronology of Kashmir killings

Srinagar, Dec 31,: The year 2018 witnessed 501 killings in Jammu and Kashmir. Those who were killed included 116 Forces personnel including 55 Army soldiers and 10 policemen, 136 civilians and 249 militants.

Here is the chronology of events of the year 2018.

Jan 3: Unidentified gunmen shot dead Arif Ahmed Sofi son of Muhammad Maqbool Sofi in Herwan village of Sopore in North Kashmir.

A Border Security Force (BSF) man RP Hazara was killed in sniper fire from across the border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jan 6: Sopore observed a complete shutdown to mark the 1993 massacre anniversary in which 57 civilians were butchered by BSF.

A powerful IED resulted in the death of four policemen in Sopore town of North Kashmir. They have been identified as ASI Irshad Ahmad EXK number 825685 resident of Doda about 58 years old, Constable Ghulam Nabi Belt number 720/IRP 3rd  resident of Rohama Rafiaabad, Constable Parvaiz Ahmad Belt number 915/IRP 3rd resident of Vilgam Handwara, Constable Mohammad Amin Belt number 470/IRP 3rd resident of Sogam Kupwara.

Jan 8: An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter at Patrigam Zuhama area of Central Kashmir’s Chadoora town.

Jan 9: Chadoora town observed a shutdown against the killing of a militant at Patrigam area.

A militant Farhan Ahmed Wani from Wanigund Khudwani Kulgam was killed in a gunfight at Pehlipora Larnoo Kokarnaga area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A civilian Khalid Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Salam Dar of Redwani Payeen was killed in Government Forces firing at Khudwani during clashes.

Jan 10: A complete shutdown was observed in Kulgam district against the killing of militant and a civilian.

Jan 11: A complete shutdown was observed for the second consecutive day in Kulgam district against the killing of militant and a civilian.

Jan 12: Suspected militants attacked police post Keegam in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. However, no casualties were reported.

Jan 13: Kashmir shuts against civilian killings.

Government Forces diffused an IED at Shalteng area of Srinagar city.

An Army soldier Bhadne Y.M was killed in cross border firing in Rajouri Sector.

Jan 15: Army claimed that it foiled an infiltration bid killing five JeM militants in Duljana Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Pakharpora observed shutdown to remember Master Shakil Wani and other four militants who were killed in Keller Forest of Shopian district in 2015.

Jan 16: A shutdown was observed to commemorate the first death anniversary of three Hizbul Mujahideen militants Masoom Shah, Adil Reshi and Abid Sheikh in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Jan 18: A border security force head constable and a minor girl were killed and four others, including three civilians, injured as Indian and Pakistani soldiers exchanged heavy fire and shelling along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. The deceased BSF man was identified as A.Suresh of Tamil Nadu while the civilian girl was identified as Sabity (aged 13 years), daughter of Sat Pal, a resident of Dayala Chak, Kathua.

Jan 19: A BSF head constable Jagpal Singh died in RS Pura, while army soldier from Madras regiment, identified as Sam Abhram, died in Sunderbani in cross-border firing. Two civilians—Bachno Devi, wife of Jeet Raj and 20-year-old Sahil Choudary (both from Suchetgarh)—died in Suchetgarh border firing.

Nearly 22 people sustained injuries in firing and shelling in different border areas of Jammu province.

At least 8 cops were wounded after militants lobbed a grenade at police station Pulwama. Post grenade attack, clashes erupted between government forces and local youth.

Jan 20: Three Civilians Ghara Ram of Kapurpur, Ghara Singh of Abdullian and Terseem Singh of Gajanso were killed in Jammu while a soldier Mandeep Singh of village Alampur village of Punjab was killed in Poonch Cross Border Firing.

Suspected militants lobbed a grenade at Police Station Shopian. However, no one was injured in the attack.

Jan 21: A civilian Gopal Das of Kanchak was killed in cross border firing at Kanchak sector.

Jan 22: A policeman was injured when militants lobbed a grenade at police station Baramulla.

Militants fired upon a police post at SIDCO industrial complex Lassipora in Pulwama district. The police retaliated but the militants escaped from the area. The firing caused no damage.

A civilian was wounded in a grenade attack in Pampore township of Pulwama district.

Jan 24: Two militants Sameer Ahmed Wani of Odoo and Firdous Ahmed of Ganawpora and a 17 year old civilian Shakir Mir of Qalampora Rajpora were killed in an encounter at Chaigund Shopian. Two girls were also critically injured.

Jan 25: Handwara shuts to remember 1990 massacre victims.

Twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian observed shutdown against the killing of two militants and a civilian at Chaigund Shopian.

A ten year old boy Musaib Fayaz Najar was critically injured when a shell went off suddenly at Chaigund Shopian encounter site.

Jan 26: A complete shutdown was observed across Valley on the eve of India’s Republic Day.

Suspected militants lobbed a grenade at police station Pulwama. However, no one was injured in the attack.

Pulwama and Shopian observed shutdown against the killing of two militants and a civilian at Chaigund Shopian.

  Jan 27: A complete shutdown was observed in Kupwara town to remember the 1994 massacre victims. At least 27 innocent civilians were killed on that day by Indian Regiment troopers.

Two youth Javaid Ahmed Bhat and Suhail Ahmed were killed in Ganowpora Shopian after army opened fire on youth pelting stones. Another youth Rayees Ahmed was critically injured. The killings sparked massive protests in the area.

Two cops were injured after militants hurled a grenade at police post Warpora Sopore.

Jan 28: A complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir against the civilian killings. Restrictions were imposed in old Srinagar city.

Militants fired upon security personnel at Court Complex Pulwama.

Jan 29: Shutdown was observed in twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian against civilian killings.

Jan 30: Shopian district observed shutdown for the 6th consecutive day against civilian killings.

At least five persons were injured during nocturnal clashes at Karimabad Pulwama.

Jan 31: Shopian and Pulwama observed a shutdown against civilian killings.

Feb 1: Minor boy Musaib Fayaz Najar of Daramdar Keegam, Shopian who was injured on Jan 25 near encounter site at Chaigund when an explosive substance went off suddenly succumbed to his injuries.

Shopian and Pulwama observed a shutdown against civilian killings. 

Militants attacked 182 Battalion CRPF camp late night. However, no one was injured in the attack.

Feb 2: Shopian and Pulwama observed a shutdown against civilian killings. Restrictions were imposed in old Srinagar city and Shopian to foil protests against civilian killings.

Three army soldiers of 21 Rajput Rifles were killed when a snow avalanche hit their post at Machil in Kupwara district.

Feb 3: Shopian observed a shutdown against civilian killings.

Two CRPF personnel and two civilians were wounded after militants hurled a grenade on CRPF patrolling party near Batagund Crossing Tral.

Feb 4: A Captain and three soldiers were killed in Pakistan firing at Bhimbar Gali along LoC in Rajouri. They were identified as captain KapilKundu of village Ransika of Gurgaon, rifleman Ramavatar of village Baraka in Gwalior, rifleman Subham Singh of village MukandPurChoudharian, Kathua Jammu, havaldar RoshanLal, of village Nicholas, Ghagwal in Jammu’s Samba district.

Feb 5: Militants hurled a grenade at army camp in Kakapora that was followed by a brief exchange of fire.

A civilian Arif Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Rashid Lone was injured in army firing at Hawaro-Mishipora in Kulgam. Police registered FIR against army.

Feb 5: Two policemen Mushtaq Ahmed of Karnah and Babar Khan of Shangas Anantnag were killed when militants fired upon them inside SMHS Hospital helping a LeT militant Naveed Ahmed to free from police custody. Naveed along with six other prisoners were brought to hospital for medical check-up.

Army enforced a shutdown in Dadsara Tral after a stone-pleting incident.

Feb 8: Shopian town observed shutdown against the arrest spree. A youth was critically injured there in clashes after government forces fired pellets on protesters.

Feb 9: Kashmir Valley observed a shutdown to remember Muhammad Afzal Guroo on his fifth hanging anniversary. Shopian town observed shutdown for the 2nd consecutive day against the arrest spree.

Feb 10: At least 10 persons including five soldiers a civilian and three militants were killed in Sanjuwan Jammu after armed militants sneaked into military station. They were identified as subedarMadanLalChoudhary of Hiranagar, Kathua, subedar Muhammad Ashraf Mir and havaldarHabibullah Qureshi both from Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmed Deva of Quazigund, Anantnag, nayak Muhammad Iqbal and his father from Tral, Pulwama and Farooq Ahmed of Haihama Kupwara.

Shopian town observed shutdown for the 3rd consecutive day against the arrest spree.

Saima Jan the sister of Hizb militant Sameer Wani who was injured in army firing an Chaigund Shopian succumbed to her injuries.

Feb 11: Kashmir shuts to remember Muhammad Maqbool Bhat at his hanging anniversary.

Feb 12: Gunfight in Karan Nagar left a CRPF trooper Mujahid Khan dead.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Hurriyat activist Yousuf Nadeem at Chahrangam Budgam.

Feb 13: Karan Nagar gun fight ended with the killing of two non-local militants. Yesterday a trooper had been killed during the initial exchange of fire.

The body of another soldier Farooq Ahmed of Haihama Kupwara was found at Sunjwan Military Station.

Feb 15: Army claimed it killed two militants in a gunfight on the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakot area of Poonch district foiling an infiltration bid from Pakistan, military sources said.

Feb 16: Militants managed to escape encounter site in Tantray Mohalla of Palhalan amid clashes with protesters and government forces in which several youth a cops were wounded.

Feb 17: Kashmir shuts against the shifting of prisoners to outside jails.

Feb 19: A 55-year old man Syed Habibullah of Soibugh Budgam was shot dead by government forces outside Air Force station in Budgam district when he allegedly crossed station fencing.

Indian Army said that it repulsed an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) by killing a militant and injuring two others along the Line of Control in Jammu’s Poonch district. Three Indian soldiers were also injured in the gunfight.

Feb 20: BSF constable Sunil Kumar Murmu of Bihar deployed on LoC in Karnah sector of Jammu Kashmir loses life in a sniping incident.

Militants attacked Guard Post at Air Force Station at Malangpora Pulwama. The attack resulted in the injuries of a trooper.

Feb 22: A soldier was injured after militants fired upon them during a cordon and search operation at Paribal Hajin in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Feb 25: Two cops were shot dead by suspected militants at two different places. An armed policeman Kultar Singh of Samba was killed at Charar-e-Sharif shrine while another cop Farooq Ahmed Itoo of Chadoora guarding Hurriyat leaders Fazal Haq Qureshi’s house at Soura was also shot dead. Militants managed to decamp with the rifles of both these slain cops.

Feb 26: Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan, a captive militant was killed when according to police he tried to flee from police station Tral.

Tral observed a shutdown against the killing Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan.

Militants and government forces exchanged fire in Bonmohalla Hajin.

Ramesh Lal, a civilian who was injured in Pakistan firing on January 18 in Arina sector of Jammu succumbed to his injuries.

Feb 27: A non-local militant who was reportedly injured during exchange of fire yesterday succumbed to his injuries. The death of militant sparked shutdown and clashes in Hajin.

Tral observed a shutdown against the killing of Hizb militant Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan.

Feb 28: Hajin town observed a shutdown for the second consecutive day against the death of LeT militant Abu Haris.

Tral observed a shutdown for the third consecutive day against the killing of Hizb militant Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan.

Militants fired upon a civilian Ajaz Ahmed Shah near Eidgah Tral, injuring him critically.

March 1: A LeT militant was killed in a gun fight at Shakurdin Mohalla Hajin sparking protest and shutdown in the area.

Tral observed a shutdown against the killing of militant for fourth consecutive day.

March 4: A militant and four civilians were killed in Pahnoo Shopian while the body of another militant was found in Saidipora village of the same district. Army said they were over ground workers while locals said only one was militant rest were civilians. Police identified the slain persons as militant Amir Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed of Hermain, civilian Suhail Ahmed Wagay, son of Khalid Ahmed of Pinjora, Shahid Khan son of Bashir Ahmed of Malikgund, Shahnawaz Wagay son of Ali Muhammad and Gowhar Ahmed Lone both residents of Muloo Trenz.

The body of a militant Ashiq Ahmed Bhat according to police was recovered from an orchard in Saidipora village of Shopian.

March 5: A Jaish-e-Muhammad Commander Mufti Waqas was killed while a policeman was wounded in an encounter at Hatiwara Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Kashmir observed a shutdown against Shopian civilian killings.

March 6: All the four districts of South Kashmir shut against the Shopian civilian killings while Awantipora, Tral and Pampore townships observed shutdown to mourn the death of Jaish militant Mufti Waqas.

March 7: Kashmir shuts against civilian killings while authorities foiled Shopian March by imposing restrictions in parts of Srinagar and curfew in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts.

March 8: Shopian shuts against civilian killings. Delina Baramulla area observed shutdown against the killing of elderly man Abdul Aziz who was crushed to death by a police vehicle.

March 9: Shopian shuts against civilian killings.

March 10: Shopian shuts against civilian killings.

March 12: Three militants were killed in a gunfight at Hakoora Kokarnag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. They were identified as Eisa Fazli of Soura Srinagar, Syed Owais Shafi of Gohan Vailoo Kokarnag and Muhammad Toufiq of Telangana India. The killings sparked protest and strike in Srinagar and other parts while authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and Anantnag district.

A shepherd Ashiq Ahmed Chopan was killed in a mysterious explosion near Army firing range at Lethpora Awantipora.

March 13: Soura and Kokarnag observed shutdown against the killing of three militants at Hakoora.

Suspected militants hurled a petrol bomb in Shopian.

March 14. Soura observed shutdown against the killing of three militants at Hakoora.

March 15: A PSO Bilal Ahmed guarding BJP activist Anwar Khan was injured after militants attacked him at Balhama in the outskirts of Srinagar city. Shortly after the attack Forces cordoned off the area and in the ensuing gun battle two militants identified as Shabir Ahmed Dar of Aghanzpora Awantipora, Owais Bhat Nawdal Tral. The killings sparked shutdown in Awantipora and clashes in Pulwama.

March 16: Pulwama observed a shutdown against the killing of two militants in Balahama Khonmou.

March 17: An elderly woman died due to heart attack after Government Forces lobbed tear smoke shells at Chakoora Pulwama during a cordon and search operation.

March 18: Five persons of a family died due to cross border shelling in Devta village of Mendhar Jammu. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Ramzan, son of Muhammad Abdullah, Malika Bi wife of Muhammad Ramzan, Abdul Rahman son of Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Rizwan son of Muhammad Ramzan and Abdul Razak son of Muhammad Rizwan.

March 20/21: Five non local militants, two policemen and three army soldiers were killed in a fierce 2 days gun battle at Halmatpora Kupwara.

March 22: Omais Rashid a resident of Qaimou Kulgam who was thrashed by militants for his alleged anti-Movement activities succumbed to his injuries.

March 24: Two Jaish militants Ashraf Molvi and his body guard were killed in Sheshtargam Dooru Anantnag encounter.

March 25: LeT militant Shafat Wani of Wagoora Baramulla was killed in an encounter at Arizal Budgam.

March 28: Four militants were killed in a fierce gunfight in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Chadoora town shuts to commemorate the first death anniversary of four youth killed in government forces firing.

March 29: Militants shot dead SPO Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh at Katoo Wubzan village of Dachnipora belt of Bijbehara while his wife Fareeda Begum received injuries during a scuffle with militants.

Unknown persons shot at and injured a youth Sayar Ahmad Wani in Chencer village of Kulgam district.

A militant was injured during an exchange of fire between Forces and militants at Ahangam Shopian.

Tral shuts against the visit of interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma.

March 31: Militants shot dead an SPO Ashraf Mir in Pulwama.

April 1: In three different encounters in South Kashmir and subsequent clashes 13 militants, 4 civilians and 3 army soldiers were killed. One militant was killed in Dialgam (Anantnag) encounter, 7 militants were killed in Dragadh and 5 militants were gunned down in Kachdoora Shopian. Over 200 people were injured in clashes.

The slain militants were identified as

Zubair Ahmad Turay, resident of Bonbazar area of main town Shopian; Nazim Nazir Dar, resident of Nagbal village of Shopian; Rayees Ahmad Thoker of Paderpora, Shopian; Ubaid Shafi Malla of Trenz village, Shopian; Adil Ahmad Thoker of Homhuna village, Shopian; Yawar Ahmad Yatoo of Safnagri village, Shopian; Ishfaq Ahmad Malik of Pinjora village, Shopian, Aietemad Hussain Dar of Amshipora Shopian, Ishfaq Ahmed Thokar of Paddarpora Shopian, Sameer Ahmed, Muhammad Abas Bhat, Waseem Ahmed and Ishfaq Ahmed.

The four civilians who were killed by Forces personnel are Mehrajuddin Mir of Okey Kulgam, Muhammad Iqbal of Khasipora Shopian, Zubair Ahmed Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmed Thokar.

Three security men killed in the gunfight included Gunner Arvinder Kumar, Gunner Nilesh Singh and Sepoy Hetram.

April 2: Amid restrictions and clashes, Kashmir shuts against 17 killings.

April 3: Kangan youth Gowhar Ahmed Rather who was critically injured in police firing succumbed to his injuries. The killing sparked massive protests resulting in some serious injuries to couple of youth.

Kashmir shuts against killings for straight 2nd day.

Bullet riddled body of Muntazir Ahmed who was kidnapped by LeT militant were found in Hajin.

An army soldier was killed while four others injured in LoC cross border shelling in Mehandar Poonch.

April 4: Two CRP personnel were killed after a stone pelting incident at Hillar Kokarnag.

April 5: Student protests against killings at multiple colleges across Kashmir disrupted life.

April 6: Police recovered the body of Manzoor Ahmed of Hajin who was abducted by unidentified gunmen.

A Hizb militant Musavir Ahmed was killed in an encounter in Kangan Pulwama.

Kashmir shuts against killings.

April 9: Parts of Budgam remained shut against the killing of 8 youth last year on polling day.

Two Indian soldiers Rifleman Jaki Sharma and Rifleman Vinod Singh were killed in Sunderbani sector of Nagrota when Pakistani army resorted to shelling and firing.

April 10: An army soldier was killed in Pakistan firing in Mehandar sector of Poonch.

April 11: Four civilians were killed after Forces fired upon protesters trying to help militants escape at Wanimohalla Khudwani Kulgam. A soldier Ganoukar Rao was killed and two others injured in the encounter while militants managed to escape from the spot.

The four civilians including a minor boy were identified as Sarjeel Sheikh of Khudwani , Bilal Ahmed Tantray of Frisal ,Faisal Ilahi of Melhoora Shopian and Aijaz Ahmed Pala of Bijbehara . The civilian killings sparked students protest across Kashmir forcing government to order the closure of the schools and colleges.

A soldier was killed in Poonch sector in Pakistan firing.

April 15: Kangan youth Amir Hamid Lone who was injured in police action succumbed to his injuries. His killings sparked protest and shutdown.

Suspected militants injured a man Kifayat Ahmed of Moolu Shopian village when they fired upon him at Pinjora Shopian.

April 16: A cop and a civilian were injured after suspected militants attacked police patrol in Shopian.

April 17: A soldier was injured after militants attack a patrol in Seer Jagir Tral.

April 20: Havaldar Charanjeet Singh, who was injured in Pakistan firing, succumbed to his njuries.

April 21: At least three persons suffered bullet injuries after army allegedly fired upon protesters in Hergam Karimabad area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

April 24: Four militants, a soldier and a policeman were killed in a fierce gun battle in Laam Forest area of South Kashmir’s Tral Township in Pulwama district. Two slain militants were non-locals while two local militants were identified as Ishfaq Ahmed of Handura Tral and Abid Ahmed of Khangund Tral. The soldier Ajay Kumar of 42 RR and SOG man Latif Gojri were also killed in the shootout.

April 25: Political worker Ghulam Nabi Patel was shot dead by militants in Rajpora Pulwama while his 2 security guards also suffered injuries.

April 27: A civilian Shafaq Shabir of Hergam Shopian was killed after militants opened fire on a Road Opening Party of CRPF in Anantnag.

April 30: Two militants Sameer Tiger and Akib Khan (Rajpora) were killed in Drabgam encounter. A civilian Shahid Ahmed was also killed during post encounter clashes.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead three youth Haseeb Nabi, Asghar Khan and Muhammad Asif residents of Jamia Mohalla Baramulla.

May 1: Kashmir shuts against civilian killings.

May 2: A civilian Umar Kumar of Pinjoora was killed while 30 others suffered injuries after clashes erupted near gunfight sight at Turkwangum Shopian. Militants including, Zeenat-ul-Islam managed to escape from the spot.

May 4: Suspected militants abducted two persons Ghulam Hassan Dar (45) alias Hassan Rassa and Bashir Ahmad Dar (26), a Sumo driver in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district in the middle of the night and later on left their dead bodies near a mosque.

Suspected militants shot dead a man Muhammad Ashraf Mir while his wife Saima was also injured at Mirmohalla Harwan Sopore.

May 5: Suspected militants shot dead a SPO Showkat Ahmed Dar in Rohmu area of Pulwama district of South Kashmir.

A civilian Adil Ahmed of Safakadal was killed after being allegedly run over by a Forces vehicle at Safakadal area of Srinagar city.

Three militants were killed in Chattabal encounter in Kashmir capital Srinagar. One of them was a non-local while two others were identified as Showkat Ahmed Tak of Panzgam Pulwam and Fayaz Hamal of Khanqah Mola Srinagar.

May 6: Five civilians and five militants were killed in Badigam village of Shopian district. The slain included top Hizb commander Saddam Padder and the Kashmir University professor Muhammad Rafi Bhat, who was reported missing on Friday.

The slain civilians were identified as Muhammad Ashraf Mir of Rohmu, Zubair Ahmad Negroo of Ayangund Rajpora, Yasir of Shopian, Adil Ahmad, a resident of Ashmuji in Kulgam district andSajad Ahmad of Verinag Dooru.

Kashmir shuts against civilian killings.

May 7: Kashmir shuts for 2nd day against civilian killings.

A tourist from Cheenai Thirumalan (32) was killed in a stone-pelting attack at Narbal in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

May 8: Kashmir shuts for 3rd day against civilian killings.

May 11: Militants killed a cop Shameem Ahmed of Yaripora Kulgam when they attacked a minority picket at Wadwun Budgam.

May 12: A CRPF man Mandeep Singh was killed during a gunfight with militants at Bargam Pulwama.

May 15: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper Devinder Singh was killed on Tuesday in cross-border firing on the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district.

A policeman Abdul Rashid was killed in a militant attack at Padshahibagh Bijbehara.

May 17: Unidentified gunmen abducted and killed a youth Hilal Ahmed Parray at Baba Shukaruddin Mohalla Hajin.

May 18: A BSF soldier Sitaram Upadhyay (28) of 192 Battalion was killed in RS Pura sector when Pakistan army resorted to massive shelling and firing. Four civilians were also killed in the cross border fire.

Army claimed that it killed 4 militants in Brinjal forest of Kupwara district.

May 21: An infant was killed in cross border firing at Ramgarh sector of Jammu.

May 24: Five civilians were killed in cross border firing at Ramgarh sector of Jammu.

May 25: Suspected militants abducted a butcher Muhammad Yukub Wagay at Preng Hajin and later on his throat slit body was found at an orchard.

May 26: Army claimed that it killed 5 infiltrators in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara.

May 27: A civilian Bilal Ahmed Ganaie of Narwah Kakapora and an army soldier were killed when militants attack Kakapora army camp.

Veteran journalist Shujhat Bukhari and his two PSO’s were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Press Enclave Srinagar.

June15: A youth Waqas Ahmed Rather was killed in army firing at Nowpora Lassipora area of South Kashmir while two including a girl were injured during clashes.

June 16: A youth Sheeraz Ahmed was killed on the day of Eid-ul-Fitar when Forces fired pellets upon him during clashes.

June 17: Suspected militants shot dead one Muhammad Iqbal Kawa at Kelam Kulgam.

June 20: A cop Tanvir Ahmed was killed after militants attacked a police patrol at Galandar Pampore.

June 21: Kashmir shuts against Shujhat Bukhari’s and civilian killings.

June 22: A fierce encounter in Khiram Srigufwara in South Kashmir ended on a bloody note with the killing of four militants, a cop and a civilian. The slain militants were identified as Dawood Ahmed Sofi of HMT Srinagar, Adil Rehman Bhat from Sheetipora Bijbehara and Muhammad Ashraf Itoo from Hatiegam Bijbehara and Majid Manzoor Dar from Telangan Pulwama. The house owner who was killed was identified as Muhammad Yousuf Rather while his wife Rafiqa Bano also suffered bullet injuries. The slain SOG man was identified as Ashiq Hussain.

June 23: Two militants including LeT commander Shakoor Ahmed of SopathTengpora- Devsar were killed in an encounter at Chiddar Kulgam. A civilian Yawar Dar of Gassipora village of Qaimoh was also killed in the Forces action.

A youth Shahid Nazir Hajam who was injured in Khirhama encounter succumbed to his injuries.

June 25: Kashmir shuts against civilian killings.

June 29: A militant was killed in Kachama forest of Kupwara. A Barzulla family claimed that the slain militant Mudasir is their son.

A militant Sajad Ahmed Shah of Gund, Chogul Handwara and a boy Faizan Ahmed were killed in a gunfight at Chatpora Pulwama.

July 5: Suspected militants abducted policeman Javaid Hamid Dar near Vehil Shopian and later killed him.

July 6: Suspected militant fired upon an Imam Ashraf Thokar of Bijbehara at Parigam Pulwama. He was hospitalized for treatment.

July 7: Kashmir shuts against the arrest of Asiya Andrabi and her aides by NIA and their subsequent shifting to New Delhi.

Ahead of Burhan Wani’s anniversary, curfew was imposed in Tral Pulwama.

Army killed three civilians including a little girl in Hawoora Redwani area of Kulgam. They were identified as Shakir Ahmad Khanday (22) son of Muhammad Hussain Khanday, Irshad Ahmad (20) son of Abdul Majeed and Andleeb Jan (16) daughter of Ali Muhammad.

July 9: A woman Shakeela Begum was killed while saving her husband from armed man at Shahgund Hajin are of Bandipora district.

An unidentified militant was killed in Handwara forest of North Kashmir.

July 10: A student Ubaid Manzoor who was injured in BSF firing during a student protest 17 days back succumbed to his injuries.

Two militants were killed in an encounter at Kundalwan Shopian while a youth Tamsheel Khan was also killed in Forces firing.

Muhammad Ishaq suffered cardiac attack and died after he learnt his son may have trapped in the encounter site at Kundalwan Shopian.

July 11: A 6 year old boy Salik Iqbal was killed after a grenade went off in Meemandar area of Shopian.

Army shot dead a shopkeeper Khalid Gafar Malik in Thregam Kupwara.

An army commando was killed in a gunfight with militants in Kandi forest of Kupwara.

July 12: A militant was killed in Kandi Forest of Kupwara district.

July 13: Two CRPF personnel including an officer ML Meena and Sandeep Yadav of 96 Battalion were killed in militant attack in Achabal Anantnag.

July 16: Army claimed that it killed a militant in Kupwara forest.

Mudasir Ahmed, a security guard of NC leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir was killed after militants attacked their vehicle in Muran Pulwama. Militants also snatched two rifles while another security guard was also injured in the attack.

July 19: A militant was killed in Batapora Handwara forest.

July 22: Three militants including two locals were killed in Reidwani Kulgam area of South Kashmir. They were identified as Pakistani militant Mawiya, Suhail Dar of Reidwani Bala and Mudasir @ Rehan of Katarsoo.

July 24: A CRPF trooper Shankar Lal of 23 Battalion was killed when militants fired upon a patrolling party at Batamalooo Srinagar.

July 25: Two militants were killed in an encounter at Lal Chowk Anantnag. They were identified as Bin Yamin of Redwani Kulgam and Abid Hussain of Khazwan Doda.

July 30: Naseer Ahmed, a CRPF trooper from Naira village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was shot dead by suspected militants.

August 2:Two militants Zahoor Ahmad Mir of Thayan Kalaroos and Bilal Ahmad Shah of Shatmuqam village of Kupwara were killed in Khumriya Kupwara in a brief gun fight.

Aug 3: Two militants were killed in a gunfight at Druso Sopore. A soldier was also killed in the gunfight.

Aug 4: Five militants and a civilian were killed in Kilora Shopian gunfight. The slain militants were identified as Arshad Ahmad of Ganowpora Balpora, Waqar Ahmad Sheikh of Malikgund, Aijaz Ahmad Paul of Lousdanew, Umar Malik of Malikgund and Arif Ahmad Mir from Yannar village of Pahalgam. The civilian was identified as Bilal Ahmed Khan.

Aug 5: Army soldiers shoot dead a cattle trader Muhammad Shafi and injured another one in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Aug 7: Four soldiers including a Major and two militants were killed in exchange of fire in Gurez Sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The soldiers were identified as Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, SM, Rifleman Hameer Singh, Rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat and Gunner Vikram Jeet Singh.

Aug 8: Five militants were killed in a gunfight at Dooniwari Rafiabad forest in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Suspected militants abducted two youth and tortured one of them Arif Sofi to death in Khudwani Kulgam.

Aug 13: Two soldiers were killed in separate incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. Sepoy Pushpendra Kumar was killed after he received a bullet in Tanghdar area of Kupwara district. While in Tangdhar sector in exchange of firing one army jawan Pushpinder Singh of 20 Jat regiment was killed.

The dead body of Gulzar Ahmed of Muran Pulwama who was abducted by unknown gunmen was recovered from a paddy field.

Aug 17: A soldier Ram Babu Sahai was killed in a brief encounter at Kachlu Kralgund Handwara.

Suspected militants shot dead a woman Shameema Begum in Drabgam Pulwama.

A civilian Abdul Ahad was killed after militants lobbed a grenade at SP office Awantipora.

Aug 18: Three militants were killed in Tangdhar sector when they were trying to infiltrate into this part of Kashmir.

Aug 19: A soldier was killed in a land mine blast at Ghulab Post along loc in Kupwara.

A militant was killed after army foiled an infiltration bid in Uri sector of Baramulla.

Aug 22: Militants killed 3 cops in three separate incidents in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and kulgam district on the eve of Eid-ul-Azah. They were identified as Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Dar of Larav Pulwama, Yaqoob Shah of Loisani Pulwama and Fayaz Ahmed Ahmed of Zazripora.

Militants also killed BJP district president Pulwama Shabir Ahmed Bhat at Pathan Pulwama.

Aug 23: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a Forest employee Tariq Ahmed Malik at Zandarpal Kunzar Tangmarg.

Aug 24: A Jaish non-local militant was killed in Kokarnag gunfight.

Aug 25: A soldier was killed in a land mine blast at Keran Kupwara.

Aug 29: Two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants, including senior commander Altaf Kachroo and Umar Rashid Wani

were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in south Kashmir’s Muniward area of Anantnag district.

Four policemen were gunned down by militants in Arhama village of Shopian district. They were identified as Constable Ishfaq Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir of Watergam Dangiwacha, Constable Muhammad Iqbal Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir a resident of Hardu Chanam Rohama, Constable Javaid Ahmed Bhat son of Nazir Ahmed Bhat of Panzinara Sumbal and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmed, a resident of Zawoora Shopian.

Aug 30: Two militants were killed in Hajin Parray Mohalla in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Sep 1: Army claimed it killed three militants in Bnadipora forest. A soldier was also killed in the gunfight, they said.

Sep 3: Forces shot dead a youth Fayaz Ahmed Wani of Chew Kalan during a cordon and search operation in Pulwama.

Sep 8: A LeT militant Bilal Ahmed of Tantraypora Kulgam was killed in a brief encounter at Achabal Anantnag.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Hurriyat activist Hakim-ur-Rehman Sultani in Sopore.

Unknown gunmen killed ISJK militant Asif Nazir Dar in Naseem Bagh Srinagar.

Sep 10: Unidentified gunmen shot dead one Abdul Ahmed of Lalpora Kupwara near Khanyar Srinagar.

Sep 11: Two militants were killed in Gulora Handwara. They were identified as Liyakat Ahmed Lone and Furqan Ahmed.

Sep 13: Two militants were killed in Chekipora Sopore.

Three militants were killed in Kakriyal Jammu forest. 12 Forces personnel were also wounded in the gunfight.

Sep 15: Five militants were killed in a fierce encounter in Chowgam village South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Militants killed in the gunfight were identified as Gulzar Ahmed Paddar of Pombai Kulgam, Faisal Rashid Rather of Yamrach Kulgam, Zahid Ahmed Mir of Okey Kulgam, Masroor Ahmed Bhat of Fathepora Anantnag and Zahoor Ahmed of DH Pora Kulgam.

A civilian from Anchidora Anantnag Rouf Ahmed Khan was also killed in post gunfight clashes.

Sep 17: Militants killed a government gunman turned soldier Muktiyar Malik alias Muktiyar Gola in Shurat Kulgam.

Sep 18: A BSF man was killed in Ramgarh sector after Pakistan Rangers targeted them.

Sep 19: A girl Rifat jan suffered heart attack after army thrashed her brother at Ashmuji Kulgam.

The body of Mushtaq Ahmed Mir of Sopore was recovered from an orchard. Mir had been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Sep 25: Two militants including a local Abdul Majeed alias Sameer were killed in Tujjar Sopore. Police identified the other militant as Abu Maaz of Pakistan.

Sep 27: A LeT commander Asif Malik and a soldier Happy Singh were killed in Qazigund encounter.

Two militants Irfan Ahmed of Nehama Kakapora and Shiraz Ahmed of Kralwari Chadoora were killed in Panzan Chadoora encounter.

Government Forces shot dead a civilian Muhammad Salim Malik during search operation at Noorbagh Qamarwari.

Sep 28: A special police officer Adil Bashir posted with the People’s Democratic Party MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir fled with at least eight weapons including the licensed pistol of the legislator from his official residence in Srinagar.

Sep 30: A policeman was killed in a militant attack on police station Shopian. Militants also decamped with the rifle of the slain police Sakib Mir.

Oct 5: Two workers of the National Conference, Nazir Bhat and Mushtaq Wani, died after unknown gunmen opened fire in Karfali Mohalla Srinagar on Friday. Another party worker Shakeel Ahmed was critically injured.

Oct 6: Body of abducted shopkeeper Tawseef Ahmed of Tujjar Sopore was found in Tujjar.

Oct 11: Two militants Dr Manan Wani of Tikipora Lolab and Ashiq Hussain Zargar of Tulwari Langate killed in Shatgund Handwara.

A Hurriyat activist Tariq Ahmed Ganaie was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an apple orchard of Meemandar in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Oct 12: Suspected militants shot dead a policeman Javaid Ahmed at Warpora Sopore.

Oct 13: A militant Shabir Ahmed from Samboora Pampore Shabir Ahmed was killed in a gunfight in Babgund Pulwama.

Oct 17: Two militants Mehraj Bangroo and Fahad Waza, a civilian Rayees Ahmed and an SOG man Kamal Kishore were killed in Fathekadal Srinagar encounter.

Newly recruited militant Showkat Ahmed was killed in a brief encounter at Kakapora Pulwama.

Oct 19: Five militants were killed in two separate incidents. Three militants were killed in Pather Baramulla along with LoC while two militants were killed in Kralhar Baramulla.

Oct 21: At least 16 people including 7 civilians, 5 militants, 3 soldiers and a trooper were killed in different militancy related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Three militants Shahid-ul-Islam Tantray from Wangam village in Shopian, YazilMakroo from Arwani area in Bijbehara (Anantnag) and Zubair Lone from Ahwatoo village in DH Pora area of Kulgam were killed in Laru Kulgam gunfight where post gunfight 7 civilians were killed in a blast. The slain civilians were identified as Irshad Ahmad Pader and Tajamul Ahmad (both hailing from Shurat village); TalibMaqboolLaway and Mansoor Dar (both hailing from Laroo), Uzair Ahmad Dar from Reshipora, Javed Ahmad Lone of Hawoora village of Khudwani and Ubaid Shah from Makenpora village

Three soldiers and two intruders were killed in Rajouri along Line of Control while militants killed an SSB Jawan Vijay Kumar in Midora Tral.

Oct 24: Two militants including scholar Sabzar Ahmed Sofi of Naina and Asif Shergujri of Khiram Sirhama were killed in a gun fight at Wannabal Nowgam in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

Oct 25: Two militants were killed in Athoora Kreeri area of Baramulla district. One among the two militant was a local identified as Aqeel Rashid Sofi (17) of Khanpora.

Four militants Sahir Makroo of Arwani, Owais Ahmad Lone from Hawora-Mishpora area of Kulgam district, Muzamil Magray of Watoo Aharbal and Amir Tantray of Damal Hanjipora Kulgam were killed in Arwani Bijbehara.

An army soldier Sepoy Rajendra Singh died in a stone pelting attack.

Oct 26: ASI CISF Rajinder Prasad died when militants attack wagoora Nowgam Grid Station.

Oct 27: A PDP worker Muhammad Amin was shot dead in Gangbugh area of Srinagar.

A police sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir of Sontbugh Pulwama was shot dead by militants in Wahibugh area of pulwama district.

Oct 30: Two Jaish militants including a local Showkat Ahmed were killed in Chanthar Tral.

Nov 1: Two militants including a local Mukhtar Ahmed Khan from Brass Khansahab and Amin Rasool of Drangbal Pampore were killed in Zagoo Arizal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A militant Naseer Ahmed Teli was killed in Sagipora Handwara in a brief shootout.

Two brothers affiliated with BJP Anil Parihar and Ajit Parihar were killed by unknown gunmen in Kishtwar district.

Nov 3: A mentally unsound man Rayees Ahmed of Begam Kulgam was shot dead by army in Shopian.

Nov 4: A militant and a civilian Shahid Mansoor were killed in Khudpora Shopian encounter.

Nov 6: Two militants were killed in Safnagri village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. They were identified as Muhammad Idrees Sultan alias Chota Abrar of Safanagri Shopian and Amir Hussain Rather alias Abu Sobaan of Awneera Shopian.

Nov 9: A non-local militant was killed in Tral gunfight.

Nov 10: Two local militants were killed in Tikan area of Pulwama district. They were identified as Liyakat Ahmed of Bellow and Wajid Ahmed of Babhar Pulwama.

Nov 11: A non-local militant was killed in a brief shootout in Chotipora Handwara.

An army soldier identified G. Keshav died in a sniping attack on the Line of Control in Kalal area of Rajouri district.

Nov 13: Army said it killed two intruders in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district along Line of Control.

Nov 15: A civilian Nadeem Manzoor was kidnapped and killed by unknown gunmen in Safanagri Shopian.

Nov 17: A civilian Zahoor Ahmed was killed by suspected militants in Shopian.

Nov 18: Two Albadhar militants Nawaz Ahmad Wagay of Reban and Yawar Ahmad Wani of Bhatnoora village in Pulwama were killed in Reban village of Shopian.

Nov 20: Four militants Abid Nazir Chopan of Padarpora, Basharat Nengroo of Chotigam Shopian, Mehraj-ud-Din Najar of Drawni and Malik Zada Inam-ul-Haq of Mantujan Shopian and a soldier HC Vijay of 23 Para were killed in an encounter Nadimarg village of Shopian district.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district president Anantnag Mir Hafizullah at Badroo Achabal.

Nov 23: Six militants were killed in Sekipora Bijbehara. They were identified as Azad Ahmed Malik of Arwani Bijbehara, identified as Basit Ahmad Mir of Pushwara Islamabad affiliated with LeT, Atif Nazar of Waghama, Firdous Ahmad of Pulwama, Unais Shafi Bhat of Takiya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara and Shahid Malik from Awantipora affiliated with Hizbul Mujhadeen.

A soldier Nazir Ahmed was also killed in the gunfight.

A JeM militant was killed in Khrew Pampore in a brief encounter.

Nov 27: Two militants Aijaz Ahmed and Waris Ahmed were killed in Redwani Kulgam. A soldier was also killed in the gunfight.

A militant was attacked in Rishipora Tral.

Nov 28: Two militants Naveed Jatt and Mehraj Ahmed of Sopore were killed in Kuthpora Chattargam encounter.

Nov29: Two militants Adil Ahmed and Adnan Ahmed both residents of Awantipora were killed in Khrew gun battle.

Dec 6: An army soldier and a BSF man were killed in cross border firing at Machil Sector and Rajouri respectively.

Dec 9: Three militants Mudasir Rashid (14) Sakib Bilal (17) both residents of Haijin and Ali Bhai of Pakistan were killed in 19 hour long Mujhgund gun battle.

Dec: 11: Body of an abducted person Shiraz Ahmed from Laro Kulgam was found in Shopian village.

Militant attack in Zainapore Shopian leaves four cops dead. They were identified as Anees Ahmad Mir, a resident of Souch, Kulgam; Mehraj-u-din, resident of Bandipora; Hamidullah, resident of Anantnag and Abdul Majeed, a resident of Ganderbal.

Dec 13: Two militants from Sopore Ovais Ahmed and Tahir Ahmed were killed in Brat Kalan Sopore encounter.

Dec 15: Seven civilians, three militants and a soldier were killed in gunfight and clashes in Sirno Pulwam. The slain civilians were identified as Touseef Ahmad of Urchersoo, Liyaqat Dar of Parigam, Suhail Ahmad of Ballow, Shahbaaz of Monghama, Pulwama, Amir Ahmad Paul of Ashminder, Murtaza Bashir and Abid Hussain Lone of Kareemabad, an MBA pass out from Indonesia. Three slain militants were identified as Zahoor Ahmed Thokar, Tahir Hizbi and Hashim Ahmed.

Dec 21: Two Army officers were killed in Pakistan sniper attack in Keran Sector of Kupwara.

Dec 22: Six militants from Zakir Musa led Ghazwatul Hind were killed in Armpora Tral. They were identified as Sahil Ahmed Akhoon from Armpora, Rasik Ahmed Mir, Rouf Ahmed Mir, Omar Ramzan, all residents of Dadsara Tral, Nadeem Ahmed Sofi of Batagund and Faisal Javaid Khanday of Amlar Tral.

Dec 27: An Army potter was killed in LoC firing.

Dec 28: A militant Ishfaq Ahmed of Koil was killed in a brief shootout at Bandarpora Pulwama. The slain militant was an MBA student.

Dec 29: Four Jaish militants were killed in Hanjin Payeem in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
