Srinagar, Jan 01 : As the year 2024 came to an end, the efforts of the security forces not only helped improve the changing security scenario but also resulted in the elimination of around 75 terrorists this year, including maximum foreign terrorists.

According to official data, in different encounters and operations, the security forces have been able to eliminate around 75 militants in various regions of the state, including the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley, as well as during firefights that occur during infiltration attempts by militants on the Line of Control.

The official data reveals that between January and December of this year, security forces have neutralized 75 terrorists, including 45 of Pakistani origin.

A senior defense official told Kashmir Despatch that despite the tight borders along the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has never been silent and has always tried to push terrorists across; however, it has largely failed in its efforts.

He stated that although a very small number have been successful in infiltrating, the security forces on the ground have been proactive, and the terrorists have been eliminated in a timely manner.

He also noted that the efforts and dedication of the joint security forces have been quite visible on the ground, as they have eliminated 45 foreign terrorists this year as well.

The official further shared with Kashmir Despatch that out of the total of 75 terrorists, 17 were killed while attempting to infiltrate from the Line of Control (LOC) and the International Border (IB). He added that the highest number, 14 Pakistani terrorists, were killed in Baramulla in nine encounters alone.

Meanwhile, according to data available to Kashmir Despatch, the northern region of Kashmir recorded 19 anti-militancy operations this year, in which 27 terrorists were eliminated.

The data revealed that in 2024, the northern region of Kashmir also recorded five casualties among security personnel and two civilian casualties.

The official data shows that July and November became the hottest months in the northern region, with the killing of 11 foreign terrorists in various gunfights during this period.

According to official data available to Kashmir Despatch, July witnessed increased infiltration attempts and operations along the Line of Control (LoC).

On July 15, three foreign terrorists were killed in Keran, Kupwara. Three days later, on July 18, two terrorists were killed in the same sector, with security forces recovering a rare Steyr AUG rifle.

A 36-hour-long gunfight in Kupwara’s Lolab area on July 23 resulted in the death of one terrorist and one soldier. On July 27, a Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) attack in the Machil sector led to the death of one soldier and one Pakistani intruder, while four other soldiers sustained injuries.

According to the data, on November 5, two foreign terrorists were killed in Bandipora and Kupwara, with an M4 rifle recovered. The next day, on November 7, Sopore witnessed a significant operation in Sagipora, where two terrorists were killed. Another encounter in the Sopore woods on November 9 led to the elimination of one terrorist.

The official data also shows the dismantling of multiple hideouts, leading to the recovery of advanced weaponry, including M4 rifles, Steyr AUG rifles, and large quantities of ammunition.
