SRINAGAR, Dec 21: Since the abrogation of Article 370, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has undergone significant transformations, with officials reporting remarkable progress in peace, security, and development.

Over the past five years, particularly in the current year nearing its end, no civilian deaths or organized protests have been reported, marking a notable shift in the region’s dynamics.

Sources from the administration revealed to Kashmir Despatch that Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a new era characterized by stability and growth. The region is undergoing a comprehensive transformation, with visible advancements in infrastructure and improved security measures. Officials have attributed these changes to sustained efforts in governance and the evolving outlook of the local population.

Over the last five years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a drastic reduction in incidents of terrorism, bombings, shootings, stone-pelting, and strikes, according to official sources. This shift reflects the changing mindset of the populace, particularly the youth, who are now more inclined toward education and development. The growth of educational institutions, including new medical and management schools, alongside broader infrastructure projects, underscores this trend.

Recent statistics highlight a significant decline in terrorist activity within the Union Territory. Reports indicate a 70 percent reduction in such incidents over the past five years. Furthermore, there have been no reports of organized stone-pelting, strikes, or civilian fatalities related to protests during this period.

Official data reveals that the number of civilians killed or injured during law enforcement operations has dropped dramatically. In 2019, the figure stood at 133, but over the past five years, it has fallen to zero. This decline underscores the effectiveness of security measures and a shift toward peaceful coexistence in the region.

Additionally, the number of grenade attacks has decreased from 284 to 187 over the five-year span. Similarly, incidents of improvised explosive device (IED) blasts have reduced from 35 to 31. Stand-off firing incidents have also witnessed a 33 percent reduction, dropping from 358 to 240 as of November 30, 2024.

Meanwhile Official sources further highlighted ongoing measures aimed at maintaining peace stated security forces are actively working to seize properties belonging to suspected terrorists and their supporters. These actions are part of broader efforts to create a secure environment and protect the region from potential threats.

Sources further added that the administration has emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward individuals attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. Such individuals will face strict consequences under applicable laws, ensuring the preservation of order and stability in the region the they added.
