Youth kills self in Sopore, increasing suicide cases raise alarm

Sopore : A 26-year-old youth in Sopore area of Baramulla allegedly committed suicide on Saturday evening by hanging self at his home.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a 26-year-old ( name withheld) a resident of Arampora Sopore was found hanging by his family members at his home this evening.

However, he was immediately taken to sub district hospital Sopore where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival reports added.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in to the incident, the police officer said.

He said prima facie it seems a case of suicide even as investigation has been set into motion to ascertain the cause of the youth’s death.

Notably, suicide cases have seen a surge in the Kashmir valley in recent months, while experts believe that economic distress, drug abuse and frequent domestic violence are the main reason for the rise in suicide cases.
