SRINAGAR, Nov 6: In a tense series of encounters across north Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in separate operations launched by security forces. The encounters took place in dense forest areas in the districts of Bandipora and Kupwara, where a prolonged gunfight and overnight search operations led to the successful neutralization of the terrorists. Two security personnel sustained injuries during an extended exchange of fire in Bandipora.
Official sources informed Kashmir Despatch that in the Chontawari area of Bandipora district, a 20-hour standoff concluded with the killing of one terrorist. This confrontation was part of a meticulously coordinated search operation initiated by the security forces after suspicious activities were noticed near the Panar Army camp last week. Following a brief initial exchange of gunfire, the terrorists fled into the dense forests, prompting an intensified search operation.
The Army’s Chinar Corps, via a post on the platform X, confirmed that the suspected individuals opened indiscriminate fire on the troops as they approached, leading to a prolonged search operation. Security forces methodically combed through various forested areas, eventually locating and engaging the militants in the Ketson forest area late last evening, resulting in the death of one terrorist.
In a parallel operation in Kupwara’s Loalb forest, another terrorist was killed in an overnight encounter. According to reports, this operation, named “Op Margi,” concluded successfully with the recovery of an AK rifle, two hand grenades, four AK magazines, and additional ammunition. The Chinar Corps reiterated their commitment to maintaining security in the region, underscoring their focus on a terror-free Kashmir.
November has been particularly volatile, with five terrorists killed in encounters across south, central, and north Kashmir. Beyond these direct confrontations, additional incidents have shaken the Valley. A grenade attack in Srinagar left around ten civilians injured, and an attack targeting migrant workers in Mazhom, Budgam, has further alarmed the local population.
The increase in violence has led to widespread condemnation from various quarters, including the Kashmir business community. In a press release, local business leaders expressed deep concern over the economic impact of these events, particularly on the tourism and hospitality sectors that sustain thousands of livelihoods. “As peace-loving citizens, we are alarmed by the impact of violence on Kashmir’s economy. We urge those responsible for these heinous acts to cease immediately, as continued unrest will only bring further suffering,” stated the business group.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, addressing a gathering in Baramulla, issued a stern warning to those supporting or promoting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He cautioned that anyone disrupting the peace would face dire consequences, stating that “death and destruction” await those intent on destabilizing the region, and that no one complicit in such acts would be spared.
