3 militants killed in Pattan Gunfight

Pattan, September 04: Three militants were killed while an army Major among two Policemen were injured in a day-long gunfight at Yadipora area of Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district

An official told Kashmir Despatch three militants were killed in an encounter that broke out on early Friday in Yadipora area of Pattan.

He said a joint team of Police, Army’s RR 29 and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Yadipora.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

In the day-long gunfight total three militants were killed he added.

A police officer told Kashmir Despatch that three militants were killed in the gunfight. He said two policeman and an army major were injured and were rushed to MI hospital where all are said to be stable. The officer however, the identification of slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile police in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch said, On a specific input regarding presence of terrorists in village Yadipora Pattan area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 29RR, 176 BN of CRPF and 02 BN of SSB in the said area.

During the cordon and search operation as the presence of hiding militants got ascertained, they were given opportunity to surrender. However, they refused to surrender and instead held two families comprising of 12 members including children as hostage. It was therefore after strenuous efforts of joint forces that all the family members were rescued and evacuated to the safer place.

During the rescue operation one army Major and two police personnel were injured as the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the rescue party which was retaliated leading to an encounter. The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment and are stable.

In the ensuing encounter, three unidentified militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militants is being ascertained.

Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
