Bandipora, Sep 17 : At least 333 kilometre roads in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district were black topped in the last two years while 139 km are expected to complete this year, officials said Saturday.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that connectivity which was a major challenge for the district has seen a visible improvement in the last two years.
“With efforts of PWD, PMGSY and Beacon, a total 333 km were blacktopped in the last two years,” he said.
In the current financial year, the officials said that PWD is executing a target of 96 kms, PMGSY is executing 60 kms including the Gurez area and the beacon is executing 33 kms. “Most of the dilapidated roads, including those in the towns and the ones connecting other districts, and tourist destinations are being blacktopped on priority,” they said.
The officials said that the long pending Naidkhai bridge has been completed by JKPCC and is thrown open for vehicular movement.
“The administration is putting efforts to get Sumbal Bandipora Gurez road declared as highway and positive results are expected very soon,” the officials added.
They said that there is a demand for construction of a tunnel on Gurez-Bandipora road and it is under consideration—(KNO)
