Bandipora, Jan 24 : Around 36 government higher educational institutions in 5 educational zones of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are without principals and headmasters, thereby taking a heavy toll on the academics of the students and official work.

According to wire service—, out of 26 higher secondary schools of district Bandipora 14 are without principals and out of 50 high schools 22 are without headmasters from almost a year now.

Only 12 higher secondary schools in the district have principals in place while only 28 high schools are having headmasters in place.

District Bandipora has 5 educational zones which include zone Bandipora, Quil, Gurez, Hajin, and Sumbal and in these zones several major higher secondary and high schools are headless, speaking volumes about the functioning of government educational institutions.

Officials sources told that several teachers and masters were promoted or either attached to the directorate of school education Kashmir before February last year but till date the replacements are still awaited which has rendered several higher educational institutions across the district headless.

They said that one principal and headmaster has to look after 4 to 5 schools at a time which hampers smooth functioning and is the main reason behind indiscipline in these schools.

According to details, major higher secondary schools which are functioning without principals include higher secondary school Ajas, Arin, Quil, Shahgund, Naidkhai, and Nowgam.

“In Gurez out of eight higher secondary schools six are functioning without principals while as 5 high schools are without headmasters, thereby hampering the smooth functioning and also takes a heavy toll on the academics of the poor students,” officials said.

In zone Bandipora, two higher secondary schools are without principals and two high schools are also without headmasters, similarly in zone Quil 1 higher secondary is without principal and 4 high schools are without headmasters.

Three higher secondary and five high schools are headless in zone Sumbal while as two higher secondary and six high schools are headless in zone Hajin.

Officials said that on June last year 104 posts of lecturers fell vacant as they don’t have academic arrangements in place. Chief Education Officer Bandipora Javid Iqbal told that they have been sending reminders to the government about the vacancies from time to time but so far nothing has been done. (KNO)
