Srinagar, September 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a police Sub-Inspector after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe in Srinagar.
According to the ACB, the action followed a complaint alleging that the police officer had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in connection with an official matter.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted verification and subsequently laid a trap to catch the accused while accepting the bribe.
The officer was apprehended during the trap operation, the ACB said.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation has been initiated.
The anti-corruption agency said the arrest was part of its ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure accountability among public servants.
The accused police officer is expected to be produced before the competent court as the investigation proceeds.
The ACB has also appealed to people to report demands for bribes by public servants so that appropriate legal action can be taken.
