Srinagar, October 21: National Police Day, also known as Police Commemoration Day was observed across Jammu and Kashmir, wherein the martyrs were remembered for their sacrifice for the nation. The main State level function was held at Armed Police Complex Zewan where various contingents of different forces including Police, SDRF, CRPF and BSF participated in the parade.
Hon’ble Governor J&K Shri Satya Pal Malik was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Advisors to Governor Shri K Vijay Kumar, Shri K Skandan, Shri Khursheed Ahmad Ganie, Shri K. K. Sharma and Shri Farooq Ahmad Khan, Chief Secretary J&K Shri B.V.R Subrahmanyam, Principal Secy. Home Shri Shaleen Kabra, ADGsP Dr. B. Srinivas, Shri A.K. Choudhary, Shri S. J. M. Gillani, Shri A.G. Mir, Shri Mohd Sulaiman Salaria, Shri Muneer Ahmed Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Shri B A Khan and a galaxy of civil, Police, CAPF serving and retired Police officers were present on the occasion.
Hon’ble Governor Shri Satya Pal Malik speaking on the occasion said that today is an important day as we all together throughout the country are remembering all those brave hearts who sacrificed their lives to protect the integrity, sovereignty of the country. He said Jammu and Kashmir Police is one of the bravest forces in the country which has played significant role in maintaining the peace and order in the State. He said that his Govt. along with the Central Government is duty bound to take care of the welfare of the families of martyrs, education to their wards and added that more such measures are under consideration. The Governor said the J&K Police has remained always ahead in service of the nation, and lauded the Policemen who didn’t avail leave even on the holy occasion of Eid.
Referring to the martyrdom of Inspector Arshad the then SHO of Anantnag, the Governor said that Police has proved itself in the toughest of the challenges and have tried to save others at the cost of their own lives.
Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh in his address thanked the Hon’ble Governor, Advisors to Hon’ble Governor, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Home, officers from civil administration and other forces, families of martyrs, parade participants and media for gracing the event. He said that Police Commemoration Day was first observed in memory of ten CRPF personnel, who got martyred in an attack by the Chinese troops on Indo-China border in Ladakh region on 21st October 1959 and since then thousands of brave policemen have given supreme sacrifices for the nation. He said that from September 2018 to August 2019, 292 policemen of the country gave their lives in the line of duty. He said that during this period 30 JKP officers and jawans including six SPOs laid down their lives for the country and its people. He said that the large number of J&K Policemen sacrificed their lives in the last 30 years and as of now the J&K Police tops the list among the Police forces as far as the number of martyrs is concerned.
The DGP thanked the Hon’ble Governor and his administration for their constant support. He said that the Proud Parivar of J&K Police have never felt alone as the Hon’bel Governor, Advisors, Chief Secretary and other senior functionaries of administration have been always there to share the grief of Police Parivar and families of martyrs. He said enhancement in ex-gratia relief, honorarium of SPOs, hardship allowances for JK Police were possible due to the kind support of Governor Administration. He said that the Prime Minster of India Shri Narendra Modi appreciated the J&K Police force in DGPs conference, which is a proud moment for all of us. He thanked Prime Minster of India Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister of India Shri Amit Shah for their support to the JK Police.
On the occasion the DGP read the names of all martyrs who laid down their lives during this year.
Later on floral wreaths were laid at Police Martyrs Memorial by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Governor Shri Satya Pal Malik and other dignitaries on the occasion. The Governor also inaugurated the blood donation camp organised by J&K Police in collaboration with Police Hospital Srinagar, Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar, Bone & Joint Hospital Srinagar etc.
The DGP also interacted with families of martyr Police personnel and presented the cheques of rupees ten thousand each to them. He assured them that Police Parivar is always with them. He also interacted with the parade contingents and commended their efforts put in to present the Parade.
In Jammu, the main function was conducted at Gulshan Ground Jammu where Shri Mukesh Singh IGP Jammu Zone took the salute of the Commemoration Day Parade. GOs of all Jammu based Units, apart from a large number of senior / retired Police Officers, media personnel and prominent Citizens of Jammu also participated in the function. Transport Commissioner J&K Dr S.P Vaid, ADGP Railways J&K Shri Deepak Kumar, Divisional commissioner Jammu Shri Sanjeev Verma, IGP Armed Jammu Shri Danesh Rana, DC Jammu, DIG DKR-Range, Senior Police officers of the district and Commandants of other Jammu based battalions attended the function.
At Udhampur Commemoration parade was organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Dr S. D. Singh, Director SKPA Udhampur, other senior police officers, staff members and trainees paid homage to martyrs. Other Police training Schools of J&K Police also paid homage in their respective institutes to the martyrs on the occasion.
National Police Day was observed at all District Police Lines of Jammu and Kashmir province wherein district SSsP along with other senior officers from civil and police participated.
