Rajouri, Apr 30 : A woman from Nowshera’s Lam Pukharni area in Rajouri district, who recovered severe burn injuries on Tuesday late evening, succumbed after to her injuries on Thursday while police has started inquest proceedings into the matter.
Mother of two daughters, identified as Jagbir Kour, wife of Hakam Singh (who is an Army man) of Lam Pukharni received 90 per cent burn injuries on Tuesday evening at around 7 PM and was shifted to Nowshera Sub District Hospital by her neighbors. She was later referred to GMCH Jammu where she was undergoing treatment.
“In the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the woman succumbed in Jammu hospital following which necessary medico-legal formalities were conducted and body was brought back in Nowshera where last rites of the deceased were conducted by her parental family in Bhata village,” police sources told news agency.
They added that the woman was the wife of an Army man while she left behind her two minor daughters. Meanwhile, parental family members of the victim alleged that she received burn injuries due to domestic violence, adding that her father-in-law is the main accused in the incident.
“It is a clear case of domestic violence. Her father-in-law is accused in it and her husband is also a part of this evil,” her parental family told KNO. “We demand an impartial probe into the matter and stern action against the accused.”
Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Police Officer Nowshera, Zakir Shaheen Mirza, who was present in the last rites of the victim, said that inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been started into the matter. “The probe has been started and we assure that law will take its own course and whosoever will be found guilty, shall be booked,” officer said.
He informed that a team of police headed by SHO Nowshera and Police Post incharge from the area also visited the area and carried out necessary legal formalities—(KNO)
