IUST Awantipora, Social Forestry organise plantation drive, seminar

PULWAMA, Mar 17: The Islamic University of Science & Technology Awantipora in collaboration with Social Forestry department J&K & Landscaping Division, IUST Awantipora on Friday organised a plantation drive and a day-long seminar.

On the occasion, Roshan Jaggi (IFS), Director Social Forestry, J&K, attended the programme as chief guest, while the Vice Chancellor, IUST Awantipora, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo was the guest of honour.

Officials said that Plantation drive with the theme, “Donate, Plant & Own a tree” was conducted in the university premises, in which several saplings were planted.

Besides Chief guest, Guest of honour, University students and the employees of Social Forestry, the drive & then seminar on the role of forests in mitigating climate change, was conducted in presence of Regional Director, Social Forestry Kashmir, Maraj Ud Din Malik, DFO Pulwama, Manzoor Ahmad, Registrar University, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Dean outreach, Prof. Lily Want, Dean of students, Dr. Asifa Baba, Finance Officer, Sameer Wazir, and other officials.

During the seminar, the speakers threw light on several aspects of afforestation, and deliberated on the importance of forests in mitigating climate change.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo has said that they are in touch with social forestry department for several years with the motive to ensure full greenery around the campus.

Meanwhile, Director, Social Forestry, J&K, Roshan Jaggi has said that they will continue to ensure plantation drives in empty spaces with the cooperation of people, while he hailed university for planning to establish solar park in the campus.
