Tral: As the whole world celebrated World Water Day yesterday, the acute water scarcity continued to hit the Shaldraman village in Tral sub district of South Kashmir for last twenty days with residents facing a lot of difficulties.
A delegation of residents have said that they have been facing a lot of problems in absence of water & accused the PHE (Jal Shakti) department of failing to restore the damaged water supply scheme.
One of the residents, Irshad Ahmad, told that locals are suffering severely in absence of water for twenty days now.
“We have been facing water shortage for last twenty days, due to which we are forced to drink contaminated water. Till now authorities have failed to mitigate these crisis by restoring the water scheme here,” Irshad said.
As per the sources, a water scheme there had developed some technical snag, three weeks back, due to which it stop supplying the water to Shaldrman and other adjoining areas.
The aggrieved residents have said that since then PHE (Jal Shakti) department has left them on God’s mercy, “as the scheme still stands unrestored, thereby putting residents in several problems.”
Meanwhile ADC Tral S.A. Raina has said that “water problem arises due to insufficient discharge of well, even after change of water pump for which compressors is required.”
He said that “requisition has been made to Ground water Division Srinagar and it is expected within one or two days it may be sent to the site.”
“Village has been connected to another line of IR Shaldraman with which 60% population are getting supply and rest are fed by water tankers as reported by ExN PHE Awantipora,” Raina said, adding that the sufficient water for whole village will be made available In Sha Allah shortly.
