People hope it will end traffic congestion in the town

Anantnag, Dec 06 : After a long wait, a multi-level car parking complex was made functional in main town Anantnag with an aim to decongest traffic on main routes of the town.
Officials said that the foundation stone of the complex was laid in 2017 with an aim to end the traffic mess caused in absence of parking facilities.
Officials said that the foundation stone was laid on GMC road in Janglat Mandi area and the project was handed over to housing board with a deadline to complete it in 2019 at Rs 17 crore.
However, after missing several deadlines, the project was completed and was made functional on Monday, they said.
Locals while talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that in absence of any proper car parking facility in the town, people had no option other than to park their vehicles along the road there by blocking footpaths and roads at several places which often lead to long traffic jams.
Locals said that GMC premises was the only parking facility in the whole area which usually gets occupied in morning hours after which patients, attendants and others have no option other than to park their vehicles along road sides.
“By making this complex functional, we are hopeful it will end the traffic mess in the area,” locals said.
An official said that the parking facility has a capacity of around 300 vehicles and it will cater around 2000 vehicles per day.
Pertinently, facility was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Piyush Singla in presence of SSP Anantnag Ashish Kumar Mishra, CEO MC Anantnag Jahangir Khanday and other officials—(KNO)
