Ganderbal, July 3 : The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 officially commenced through the Baltal route on Friday as the first batch of pilgrims was ceremonially flagged off from the Baltal Base Camp in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district amid elaborate security arrangements and comprehensive facilities put in place by the administration.
The inaugural batch of yatris was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore (IAS) in the presence of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Nodal Officer Rahul Yadav, DIG North Kashmir Range Maqsood-ul-Zaman, Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Sudhanshu Dhama (IPS), besides senior officers from the civil administration, police, CRPF and other security agencies.
A deeply devotional atmosphere prevailed at the Baltal Base Camp as thousands of pilgrims enthusiastically began their sacred journey towards the Holy Cave Shrine, raising chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole.” Devotees carrying saffron flags and religious offerings embarked on the pilgrimage with great faith and enthusiasm, marking the formal beginning of this year’s yatra through the Baltal route.
To ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, authorities have established multi-layered security arrangements across the entire route. Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and other security forces have been deployed at strategic locations, while surveillance systems, checkpoints and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) remain operational to maintain round-the-clock vigilance.
Extensive healthcare and emergency response facilities have also been established. Medical camps staffed with doctors and paramedics, ambulances, emergency medicines, disaster response teams, fire and emergency services, sanitation workers and volunteers have been positioned at various points to provide immediate assistance to pilgrims whenever required.
Officials said all essential amenities have been made available at the Baltal Base Camp and along the pilgrimage route, including accommodation facilities, drinking water, uninterrupted electricity supply, food stalls, registration verification counters, transport management and communication services to ensure a comfortable and hassle-free journey for devotees.
The district administration stated that all departments have been working in close coordination over the past several weeks to ensure foolproof arrangements for the annual pilgrimage, with special emphasis on security, healthcare, traffic management and public convenience.
The Baltal route, known for its comparatively shorter trekking distance despite its steep terrain, continues to attract a large number of devotees every year seeking quicker access to the Holy Cave Shrine.
With the successful flagging off of the first batch of pilgrims, the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 has formally begun through the Baltal route. Authorities expressed confidence that the pilgrimage will continue peacefully and smoothly with the cooperation of devotees, security agencies and all departments involved in the arrangements.(KNC)
