Awareness programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan organised at Bandipora

Bandipora, September 01: District Administration Bandipora on Thursday celebrated “Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan” across the district.

To eradicate the drug menace, J&K Students Welfare Mission, a renowned NGO in collaboration with District social Welfare Office Bandipora under the noble supervision of District Administration Bandipora also organised a mega Anti – Drug Event at Army Goodwill School, Bandipora. Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Hakak (JKAS), District Programme Officer, ICDS, Bandipora graced the occasion as Chief Guest, District Social Welfare Officer, Bandipora, Mr. Ubaid ul Khazir (JKAS) were present as guest of honour whereas Principal, AGS School Bandipora, Miss Shabnum Kounsar were present as Guest of the Day.

Under the noble supervision of District Development Commissioner, Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad (IAS), the event witnessed various programmes under Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyan including pledge taking by student’s Rally, skits, expert talks from health experts and other awareness activities.

The programme started with pledge taking ceremony by the guests, speakers, members and volunteers of JKSWM, students of AGS School Bandipora, students of Govt. High School, Chanapal, Chattibandi Bandipora and NCC cadets of the schools. A rally was also flagged off by Mr. Hakak, DPO, Bandipora, Mr. Ubaid ul Khazir, DSWO Bandipora and other guests with slogans and raised voices as “Say No to Drugs”, “Lets Make Our Bandpora, Drug Free” etc. and with the message to make Bandipora drug free.

The main function was held at Army Goodwill School, Bandipora witnessed participation of large gathering of Local Youth , students, officials from District Administration and NGO’s etc.


Speaking on the occasion DPO Bandipora, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, (JKAS) lauded the participation of students and youth in such programmes. He advised the students to use time wisely and for constructive purpose in order to focus on career.

He called for joint efforts of various stake holders to eradicate drug menace from the district. DSWO, Bandipora, Mr. Ubaid ul Khazir (JKAS) on the occasion stressed on the slogan” Say No to drugs” in order to achieve the goal of drug free society.

He said society as a whole and family has an important role to play against drug abuse. Mr. Ubaid appreciated the role of NGO-JKSWM for organising such a beautiful programme.

Principal, AGS, School, Bandipora, Miss Shabnum Kounsar, urged upon concerned departments and educational institutions to aware students regarding ill effects of drugs in order to eradicate drug menace from society.

She urged the participants to take message of “fight against drug” to every corner of the district. She thanked the organiser and the district administration for organising the said programme.


Mr. Nisar Ahmad, Vice Chairman, JKSWM and Secretary, JKSWM, Miss Rehana Akhter threw light on various laws related to drug abuse. She said anyone involved in drugs shall face tough legal consequences and stressed on staying away from drugs for eradicating this menace.
During the occasion, Mr. Showkat Shafi clinical psychologist from DEIC, DH Bandipora deliberated various issues regarding addiction treatment facility.

He sought cooperation from public for eradicating drug menace. Speaking on the occasion, advocate Mudasir Nazir, coordinator, JKSWM stressed on psychological counselling for the persons involved in addiction. He said awareness about drugs is essential for those involved in drug menace and the society.

He also highlighted the role of NGO’s like J&K Students Welfare Mission and other institutions in eradicating the drug menace. “We consume it once, it consumes us for the entire life”, Adv. Mudasir added. Miss Sadaf Amir, volunteer, JKSWM also deliberated upon role of various agencies for eradicating the drug menace and highlighted the role of family as a major stake holder for eradicating drug menace.

Miss Sofi Sameena, member, JKSWM sung a beautiful poem about drug menace with message to youth not to involve in drugs. Various students from AGS Bandipora deliberated on the theme with great flairs. Cultural teams from Govt. High School, Chanapal, Chatibandi Bandipora presented beautiful Punjabi and Gojri programmes during the said programme.


Miss Mehanza, coordinator, JKSWM urged for coordination and cooperation for making society drug free. The whole programme was hosted with dynamic anchoring by Miss Muntaha Jameel, student from AGS School with her beautiful anchoring skills.
A warm vote of thanks to all the guests and speakers was beautifully presented by Miss Afshana Hassan, PSC, OSC Bandipora/JKSWM. Similar programmes were also organised at various schools and colleges. Posters depicting various messages to make society drug free were also distributed by the organisers and the District Administration Bandipora.
