Breather! North Kashmir witness sharp decline in positivity rate

Srinagar, Jun 10 : In a major relief for the people, the three border districts in north Kashmir are witnessing a sharp decline in positivity rate as it reported a total of 2,047 Covid positive cases while 3,986 patients recovered from the virus in the past nine days in the ensuing month.

The three border districts including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara in the northern belt of Kashmir witnessed a huge spike in cases in the last two months and Baramulla district remained most affected while Bandipora registered the lowest number of cases and deaths compared to Kupwara which remained moderate.

According to the figures available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the three border districts in north Kashmir registered a total of 2,047 COVID-19 positive cases of which 910 were reported in Baramulla followed by 797 and 340 in Kupwara and Bandiproa between 1-9 June.

Figures also reveal that the northern belt witnessed the death of 21 COVID-19 positive patients of which 11 deaths were reported in Baramulla and five each in Kupwara and Bandipora between 1-9 June.

In a breather for the residents amid the ongoing pandemic, the figures reveal that in the last nine days the three districts reported a total recovery of 3,986 COVID positive patients which is more than the total positive cases logged in the past days in the ensuing month.

Figures reveal that Baramulla district reported a total of 910 positive cases and a total of 1498 recoveries from the virus between 1-9 June.

About Kupwara, figures reveal that the district registered a total of 797 positive cases while 1729 positive patients have recovered from the COVID-19 virus.

In the least affected district Bandipora the figures reveal that it logged a total of 340 COVID positive cases while a total of 759 patients recovered from the virus successfully.

The figures also reveal that the northern belt has a total of 3,415 active positive cases of which 1,913 are in Baramulla and 1,076 in Kupwara and only 426 active cases in Bandipora as of Wednesday.

Compared to the weeks earlier the three districts registered the lowest number of cases in the ensuing month with a significant improvement in positivity rate with a total of 3,986 recoveries in the last nine days alone.

Besides positivity and recovery rate the figures reveal that a total of 530,438 people have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 across North Kashmir of which 306,359 are from Baramulla, 101,108 from Bandipora, and a total of 122,971 from the Kupwara district.

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have started the phased manner to unlock with the improvement in Covid situation across the UT besides announced the weekend curfew and deputed teams to ensure SOP’s are followed to contain the further spread of the virus —(KNO)
