Insulting national flag, supporting China can spoil J&K’s cause: Sharma
SRINAGAR, October 24: Congress on Saturday said that certain elements within signatories of the Gupkar Declaration are damaging the cause of people of Jammu and Kashmir by their ‘utterances’.
“Mehbooba Ji insult to National Flag cannot restore Article 370 and instead it would further create antipathy and provoke the sentiments at national level towards J&K. Similarly, some of them support China. Congress is a national party and we are accountable before the nation and have to respect the national sentiment,” Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma told Kashmir Despatch.
He said that such utterances are highly ‘provocative’ and ‘irresponsible’ and cannot yield anything for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Congress stands for restoration of Statehood and constitutional safeguard for land and jobs for people of Jammu and Kashmir. Yes there is some political agenda of some political parties which we are not opposed to,” Sharma told Kashmir Despatch.
He said that Congress is not against constitutional and democratic struggle for any justified cause for restoration of rights of people in J&K. “But desecrating the National Flag can spoil their own case. Congress gave and saved Article 370 before August 2019, and we are supposed to be guarded in our reaction,” he added.
He said the stand taken by the Congress needs no explanation as it is known to the country and the people of Jammu and Kashmir as well. “It does not matter whether to join any Declaration or not. We have to see that the mood of the entire nation is not disturbed by our actions which can damage the interests of people of J&K,” Sharma remarked.
