COVID-19: 3 persons die under snow en route home to evade curbs in Banihal

Jammu, April 1 : Three persons died and another was injured critically after they got trapped in the snow along a mountainous route adopted by them to reach their home in Banihal by evading restrictions amid a lockdown over coronavirus pandemic.

Sources told that the initial investigation by police has revealed the seven persons, all residents of Hanjaj Banihal had adopted snowbound and hazardous mountainous track to reach their home by evading the restrictions in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

They said four of them got trapped in the snow while three others reach their home. Those trapped in the snow were later evacuated and taken to Sub District Hospital Banihal. One of them, Mohammad Reyaz son of Mohammad Ramzan was declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the hospital and three others were admitted in critical condition. Later two among them succumbed and they have been identified as Ghulam Mohdin and Abdul Zubair. The condition of the fourth person continues to be critical, the sources said.  

The concerned Station House Officer (SHO), Aabid Bukhari who was also part of the rescue team told GNS that these persons got trapped last night. “Soon after receiving the information, a rescue operation was launched and they were evacuated. One of them was declared dead on arrival at the hospital,” the SHO said. The three others were admitted to the hospital in critical condition but two of them succumbed later, he added. (GNS)   —
