COVID-19: Sopore Cop disengaged after video goes viral

Srinagar, March 27 : Police on Monday disengaged a policeman after a video went viral in which he is seen using foul language against people in Sopore area of Baramulla district during restrictions to prevent spread of coronavirus in north Kashmir.    


“We have disengaged him and a case has been registered against him,” Inspector general of Police (IGP), Kashmir Vijay Kumar (IPS) told GNS.

A case FIR-53/2020 under section 153-A and 166 IPC has been registered in connection with the incident, police said.  


“On preliminary investigation, the allegations were found to be true and the official is identified and is posted in Police District sopore,” a police officer said. “It was divulged that the personnel shot the video at an isolated place and was not part of any announcement making team.

The official later shared the video with friends on social media.”

He said taking cognizance of the issue, Sopore police has registered an FIR against the erring official under relevant sections of law and the official has been disengaged forthwith from the department. (GNS)
