Cricket, Football stadiums in Tral await completion

Indoor stadium witnesses rush of aspiring athletes

PULWAMA, Aug 10: For the first time in history, Indoor stadium worth crores of rupees have been constructed in Tral sub district of South Kashmir giving platform to large number of aspiring athletes for over a year now.

While the aspiring athletes participate in martial art training on daily basis in newly constructed indoor stadium, the cricket and football players continue to face hardships, as the construction work on both cricket and football grounds are yet to be completed.

The works for Indoor, Cricket and Football stadiums were approved a few years back, following which Indoor stadium was completed last year, and has been witnessing rush of aspiring athletes, who are being trained by professional athletes, under Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.

However, football and cricket players of Tral sub district have been waiting for a long time to see the completion of work on both the grounds.

Kar Umer, a local football player has said that “there were the time, when only few players would come to play football, but a large number of players appear to play this game now.”

He said that “Construction of Indoor Stadium in Tral is a welcome step, but work on Football ground should be completed now, so that football players play comfortably here.”

Similarly, during a match on under construction Cricket Ground in Bajwani Tral, a young cricket player, Aatif Showkat has said that players usually get injured, as the ground is not maintained yet.

He said that steps to complete the work on the cricket ground should be ensured, and added that drinking water facility should also be made around the ground.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the three stadiums (Indoor stadium, Cricket & Football ground) are located at the same place in Bajwani area, some three kilometer from sub district headquarter.

The Indoor stadium worth crores of rupees stand completed, where aspiring players from various areas of Tral sub district come to get training, and opportunities to play outside the sub district, while several received medals in different competitions so far.

Pertinently, About football ground, a sports official has earlier said that she will look into the matter soon.
