DC B’la inaugurates Facilitation Centre under MIS at Fruit Mandi Sopore

BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 12: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo today inaugurated Facilitation Centre at Fruit Mandi Sopore under the recently launched Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).

Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the significance of the scheme and said that the Facilitation Centre shall act as a multifunctional trading point for apple traders and growers where the registration process and other necessities shall be processed. He said that the objective of the NAFED is to promote cooperative marketing of agricultural produce to benefit farmers.

He said that procurement shall be made directly from genuine apple growers and the administration will ensure direct payment in bank accounts of apple growers through direct benefit transfer (DBT). He said that fair prices for various categories will be fixed by the price committee that includes a member from National Horticulture Board.

Pertinently, under MIS scheme, apples cultivated in J&K will be procured directly from farmers by the government-run National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).
